Desktop app does not refresh after logging into WP.com for the first time #14

Description

Quick summary

The first time I clicked on "Log into WordPress.com", it took me to my browser to authenticate myself but after that the screen did no refresh to show I was logged in. I had to restart Studio to see the changes in the "Sharing" tab.

I logged out to try again and record this but subsequent attempts worked as expected so I am not sure if this only happens when logging for the first time or if this was a one-off glitch.

I made a recording of this subsequent login (where it works as expected):

The https://developer.wordpress.com/docs/developer-tools/studio/ says this:

Once approved, a popup will appear prompting you to open the Studio app. Click on the "Open Studio" option to finalize the process.

I have edited to include one more line:

Once approved, a popup will appear prompting you to open the Studio app. Click on the "Open Studio" option to finalize the process. If the "Share" settings do not change after logging into WordPress.com, you might need to re-start the desktop app.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install Studio
  2. Create a local site
  3. Under "Share", click on "Connect to WordPress.com"
  4. Complete the authentication in your browser
  5. Notice how you are redirected back to the desktop app but the "Share" section does not change.

I was caught in this loop until I re-started the desktop app.

What you expected to happen

It should refresh automatically to show that you are logged in.

What actually happened

Nothing, I was caught in a loop

Available workarounds?

Yes, rebooting the app. This is easy to implement but can be hard to figure out for some users.
