Update fails silently (I suspect it is because my local Mac account is no longer an administrator) #7403

I installed Docker and Docker Desktop when my local Mac account was an admin. Now, because of tightening security policies at work, my account is not an admin, though I have a separate account to use when an action requires elevation.
The update from 4.32 to 4.33 downloads without issue but when I click apply and restart Docker Desktop then reports that the update is being installed, shuts down, but fails to restart. When, eventually, I restart it manually it is still on 4.32.
I suspect that it needs elevated permissions but is failing to request them.
Reproduce
- Open Docker Desktop
- Click "Update and restart"
- Wait
Expected behavior
I expect Docker Desktop to restart with 4.33 installed.
