I received a DMCA takedown notice from support@githubsupport.com for a repository that I forked from someone else which contains programming interviews questions. I wonder if the sender of email is really github support or is it a phishing or a spam? In fact the domain githubsupport.com does not exist. Also, the email contains many links to click on. In the email it is written that I should reply to it in 1 business day otherwise the repository will be disabled. However, I already deleted the repository myself since it was not important to me. I wonder if the email is genuine, and will it cause a problem to my github account if I do not reply to it given that I already deleted the repository myself?

Official emails from GitHub will only come from support@github.com.

If you would like to report this as phishing, the best route to get this to the proper GitHub team is to use our abuse reporting tools. Here's all the info:

Email communication from GitHub Support will always be sent from either a github.com or githubsupport.com address.

I think that support@githubsupport.com is a valid address and not phishing.

I reported an issue but my Gmail reported the "Github support ticket" response as suspicious:

This is what Github"Support" wanted to run on my powershell (root access, basically):

I was going to reply to the support ticket, but realized the domain did not appear to be Github. Thus I am posting my response here:

Thank you for your reply. After some research, I discovered that Ghost is a legitimate Github account. However, I was unsure the post that was made by it was legitimate because github-scanner did not appear like a github-based domain. If it used a subdomain such as "scanner.github.com" or github.com/scanner, I would have trusted it more, and maybe even clicked on the link.
I also speculated it was possible that Github's own Ghost account was hijacked and posted that link, but then I would be questioning the security of GIthub's 2FA/MFA access, which I am not qualified to do.

Confirmed. Google themselves are hijacking links now. I noticed an email from github, but when I inspected the links, they were all wrapped through google, as if it was hijacked. Obviously its for monitoring your activy, and to push you a poltical aggenda, as usual. Take a look at this example:

I have a serious problem logging into my old account. I can't log in, it sends me a code to an email address that I obviously don't have access to. I logged into my GitHub account 3-4 months ago, and I also logged into the associated email address around the same time. Now, every time I try to log into my GitHub account, it sends a code to that email, but unfortunately I don't have any access to it. I tried to recover it, but it just doesn't work. What should I do? Please help me.
GitHub accepts my password, but redirects me to an activation code from the email, and I can't access it in any way. I don't have two-factor authentication enabled, and yet it asks me for a code. Why? Please help.

Have you tried contacting the email service to recover the account?

The activation code happens whenever you log in from a new browser, machine or IP address and when cookies are not enabled so that it can "verify" or notify you that you're (or someone) is logging in. Without access to that email address, Github might not be able to help, unless you have another recovery email or phone, or possibly if Github can work with that email provider.

@panasorkokerk1 someone changed the email address associated with your GitHub or GitHub deleted it. What I meant was that have you asked your email provider for help? In your question, it sounded like you said you couldn't access your email account. Is GitHub your email service? While they have a webbased notification, I wasnt referring to that, but a provider like Yahoo or outlook.

You stated that you don't have any access to "it." Are you referring to the access code or your email account? Or both? They're not the same service.

@hatonthecat I didn't have access to my email, they sent me a code to the email I registered with, but I couldn't log in to my email.
After many attempts and messages with my email provider, I managed to get my old email back and fix my account. The truth is that the email address had not been changed, but before, when codes were sent, they did not reach the email address at all. Once I regained access, I started receiving the codes from GitHub.

• Thank you for responding and for your help. From my experience, I have come to the conclusion that if you don't get your email back, you can't get your account back, which is unfortunate and sad. I posted a few "tickets on GitHub and expected some help from support , but that didn't happen.
