I am unable to use the "Ask Copilot" feature on the GitHub web interface due to the "Start chat" button not functioning properly.

Issue:
When I click the "Start chat" button in the Ask Copilot interface, the chat form does not open. Instead, the page only scrolls back to the top, making it impossible to start a conversation with Copilot.

Environment:

• Subscription: Copilot Pro
• OS: Windows 11 Version 24H2
• Browser: Google Chrome Version 143.0.7499.170
• Date issue started: Between Friday, January 9, 2026 (when it was working) and Monday, January 13, 2026 (when I confirmed the issue). The exact date is unclear due to the weekend.

Troubleshooting steps already taken:

• Restarted browser multiple times
• Restarted PC
• Tested in Chrome incognito mode
• Tested in multiple different browsers (Edge, etc.) - same issue occurs
• Checked browser console (F12) - no error messages displayed
• Tested on multiple repositories - issue persists across all repositories

The issue persists across all troubleshooting attempts. This completely prevents me from using the Ask Copilot feature on GitHub.com. Please investigate this issue.

Thank you for confirming. I'm also experiencing the same issue since January 13th. I've already submitted a support ticket but haven't received a response yet. It seems this issue is affecting multiple users based on the upvotes on this thread.

Update - Resolved

As of January 21, 2026, I confirmed that this issue has been resolved. The "Start chat" button in Ask Copilot is now working properly for me.

Note: The issue was still occurring on the evening of January 16th, so the fix was likely deployed sometime over the weekend. However, I could not find any mention of this fix in the release notes or changelog at the time of checking.
