Amit Kumar Rathi reposted thisAmit Kumar Rathi reposted thisIs the rupee depreciating faster than ever? In meetings with foreign investors, one concern comes up repeatedly: is the rupee weakening faster and more sharply than ever, and what does that mean for returns on India investments? The answer depends on whether you're looking at the last 20 months or the last 15 years. Looking at the data: • 2011–2020: INR depreciated at ~4.8% per year • 2021–Aug'26: INR depreciated at ~4.6% per year Despite COVID, higher US rates, geopolitical shocks, and multiple risk-off cycles, the long-term depreciation trend has remained remarkably consistent. Now compare that with the recent period: • Jan'25–Aug'26: INR depreciated ~10.3%, equivalent to ~6.3% per year That's roughly 1.3x faster than the long-run trend. So yes, the rupee has weakened faster than normal recently. But no, the long-term trend itself hasn't changed. And that's an important distinction. What's even more interesting is what's happening beneath the headline depreciation number: • Daily volatility has fallen from 0.45% to 0.27% (~41.4% lower) • Excess kurtosis has declined from 6.20 to 4.11, indicating fewer extreme single day moves • Skewness has shifted from -0.31 to +0.25, suggesting the market is less tilted toward sudden depreciation shocks In other words: The rupee has weakened, but the market has become more stable. That's very different from episodes such as the 2013 taper tantrum, when both the pace of depreciation and market stress surged simultaneously. Historical studies of INR behaviour show 2011–13 and 2022 as periods of significantly larger exchange-rate shocks than the relatively orderly depreciation seen in many other years. The recent move appears driven more by cyclical factors—oil, tariffs, portfolio flows and global dollar strength—than by a clear structural shift in India's currency trajectory. For long-term foreign investors, the key takeaway is simple: The trend hasn't changed. The path has. The last 20 months have run materially hotter than average, creating more timing risk than usual. But based on the long-run data, we're not yet looking at a new INR regime—just another reminder that currencies rarely move in straight lines. #INR #CurrencyMarkets #Investing #ForeignInvestment #EmergingMarkets

Amit Kumar Rathi reposted thisAmit Kumar Rathi reposted thisWe’re pleased to share key insights from our #Q4 FY26 #Benchmarking report, covering 17 listed institutions across affordable housing finance, MSME lending, and microfinance. The quarter reflects an encouraging picture — the affordable lending sector is firmly in recovery mode. ➡️ Growth & disbursements re-accelerating – Consolidated AUM grew 20% YoY (up from 14% in Q3) and disbursements jumped 55% YoY, signaling renewed confidence in underwriting and demand recovery on the ground. ➡️Profitability bouncing back strongly - Consolidated PAT surged to ₹2,196 Cr vs. ₹623 Cr in Q4 FY25, as credit costs normalize and operating leverage kicks in across NBFCs and MFIs. ➡️Market Trends - Over the past year, MFIs have outperformed both the Nifty 50 and Nifty Financial Services while NBFCs & HFCs have underperformed. Nifty FS has outperformed Nifty 50 marginally. ➡️NBFCs on a strong footing - AUM up 32% YoY and disbursements up 75% YoY, with gold loan-led momentum at Capri Global & Fedbank. Asset quality remains stable at ~2.1% GNPA. ➡️HFCs delivering consistent excellence - ROA at 4.6% and ROE at 16.9% remain the sector's best. Affordable housing demand continues to underpin steady 21% AUM growth with no meaningful asset quality deterioration. ➡️MFI stress firmly in the rearview - Disbursements grew 46% YoY, GNPA improved to 2.6% from a peak of 4.2%, and the sector has improved its profitability. CreditAccess Grameen and Satin Creditcare are leading the charge, with several others close behind. All in all, Q4 FY26 reinforces our conviction that the sector has entered a recovery phase. The combination of easing credit costs, recovering disbursements, and improving asset quality sets up a strong FY27. #AffordableHousingFinance #NBFC #Microfinance #MSMELending #FinancialServices #FinancialInclusion #CreditGrowth #AssetQuality #Q4FY26 #FY27Outlook #MarketInsights #IndiaFinance

Amidst historical concerns on the financing market, we have already had two closures in the space - Aye Finance and Flexi Loans and one more is on the way. Aye Finance deal was a special one given the speed at which this was executed and particularly given that they have their IPO plans. Finvyce has recently arranged a ₹9 crore Purchase Bill Discounting limit for a leading player in the manufacturing industry — that too without any collateral. In a sector where working capital cycles often stretch beyond comfort, timely access to liquidity can be a game-changer. By deeply understanding their supply chain and cashflow patterns, we structured a solution that offers: ✅ Zero collateral ✅ Faster working capital access ✅ Improved supply chain stability ✅ Zero impact on existing banking limits This is the real power of smart supply chain finance — enabling growth without adding traditional debt pressure. Excited for the impact this will create for the business!

#PrivateEquity investments in the #hospital sector bring their own set of challenges. In listed hospital chains, incentive structures are often tied to revenues, profits, or market capitalization. While these metrics matter to #investors, the deeper concern is whether such incentives compromise patient outcomes. Hospitals may contend that financial targets do not affect doctors’ integrity. Yet it is difficult to reconcile that claim when medical professionals are expected to deliver against revenue goals. The risk is that patients could be subjected to additional tests or more aggressive treatments than necessary. These risks are difficult to mitigate, because investors ultimately seek returns and a profitable exit. This is where the #NominationAndRemunerationCommittee (#NRC) carries a critical responsibility: to design #performancepay for #executivedirectors that balances #financialperformance with patient outcomes – ensuring one is not achieved at the expense of the other. #Boards must recognize that incentive design is not just about #shareholdervalue - it is about safeguarding trust in mission‑driven sectors. This tension between financial incentives and social outcomes is not unique to hospitals. It extends across cause‑based industries, with #healthcare and #microfinance being the most visible examples in listed companies today. #ExecutiveCompensation #CEOPay #CorporateGovernance #CorpGov #BoardOfDirectors #ExecutiveRemuneration Institutional Investor Advisory Services (IiAS) https://lnkd.in/dBZsaDe2
