Today, I was sitting across the table from Shri Amarjeet Singh, Whole-Time Member, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and somewhere during our conversation, this thought stayed with me. There was no attempt to display the weight of his position. No air of authority. Instead, there was a calmness in the conversation, warmth in his words and a simplicity that immediately stood out. And that contrast is remarkable. Here is a professional who has spent nearly three decades at Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), contributing across critical areas of India’s securities market. Before taking charge as Whole-Time Member in September 2023, he served as an Executive Director at #SEBI. His journey has included responsibilities across market #regulation, corporate #finance and #international affairs, and association with important reforms in primary markets, #corporategovernance, #sustainability reporting and the Social Stock Exchange ecosystem. Yet, sitting with him, you are reminded of something beyond the résumé. The bigger the responsibility, the simpler the person can be. That, for me, was the most memorable part of our conversation. We often associate leadership with authority, visibility and decision-making. But sometimes leadership reveals itself in much quieter ways - in listening patiently, speaking thoughtfully, making another person comfortable, and carrying enormous responsibility without allowing it to create distance. Shri Amarjeet Singh ji represents that quiet strength. I walked away from our conversation with a simple thought: Positions tell us what a person has achieved.
