I work where new technology meets real-world adoption, turning new capabilities into products, platforms, and organizations people trust and love to use.
For more than 30 years, I have led teams across research, engineering, product, and market entry, from early-stage ventures to Fortune 100 organizations. My experience includes Apple, Microsoft, Meta AI, Samsung, Sony, Adobe, IDEO, and founder-led companies.
As a founder-builder, fractional Chief Product Officer, and advisor, I help teams decide what to build, make hard tradeoffs, align product, design, engineering, and business, and move from strategy to delivery.
I am a U.S. citizen and an immigrant to Japan, based in Tokyo with permanent residency. Thirty-five years here, together with work across North America and Europe, have given me strong cross-cultural judgment and builder/operator fluency in Japanese.
My interests are AI, robotics, advanced hardware, infrastructure, and companies entering Japan or building across markets. I care about products that expand human agency, create sound businesses, and widen participation.

Ana Arriola-Kanada さんが再投稿しましたAna Arriola-Kanada さんが再投稿しましたWhile the world is enamored with AI benchmarks measuring what models can do—and how much engineering work they might replace—I’m interested in a different benchmark: When AI creates something, what are humans left responsible for? How much code, infrastructure, dependency surface, security exposure, operational complexity, and ongoing cost did that impressive result leave behind? How much is genuinely load-bearing—and how much exists because the application was assembled on top of decades of legacy cloud architecture? AI should simplify systems and expand human capability. But it can also be used to plaster over complexity: adding more services, control planes, integrations, billing surfaces, and entanglement while making the initial result look effortless. The rising token usage can feel like increasing value. Sometimes it is. But sometimes it is simply the cost of repeatedly reasoning across a system that has become too complicated to understand. That feels like the antithesis of where AI could take us. The next generation of benchmarks shouldn’t measure only what AI can produce. They should measure what humanity is left to understand, secure, operate, pay for, and change. That may be the benchmark that actually matters.

Harmony wins, problems go unsaid, and people quietly stall. Coral is built different. Once a year we do 360 reviews, and we are deliberate about it. Team and cross-team groups give feedback to each other’s faces. Last week we ran sessions on each other’s values first, so that we understand each other before delivering feedback. None of it works without trust. That is the part you cannot fake or install in a quarter. We’ve built this culture over years. A recent hire told me they were surprised how blunt the feedback was, and how well people took it. Most places optimize for comfort. We optimize for getting better. Last week I ran a Common Futures Workshop at Soho House & Co Tokyo curated by semi permanent and teenage engineering to find a common ground on AI development. I showcased a work called (what have we) Lost and Found where we imagined a future where humanity normalized implanting AI hardware into their bodies. The room swayed from confusion to excitement, from laughter to despair, and from horror to hope. Hours passed by like seconds as we debated what "good" is, what human "progress" in service of, and what does it even mean to be a "free" individual in this age. In a world that feels ever divided about our future, the Common Futures Workshop brings people of different backgrounds and perspectives into a single room to find a common ground. Ana Arriola-Kanada さんがリアクションしましたAna Arriola-Kanada さんがリアクションしましたEarlier this month, I took the stage at Google I/O Connect China in Shanghai to share how we’re building and scaling production-grade TPU software ecosystem in particular and AI infrastructure in general. 🇨🇳✨ Beyond connecting with thousands of attendees on the ground, I held deep technical discussions with various technology leaders and partners, including Alibaba, Tencent, Ant Financial, ByteDance, Moonshot, ZTE and more —reaffirming our goal of empowering developers and enterprises with unmatched AI compute and system performance, especially on Google TPU. A few standout moments: Full-Stack AI: In my keynote, I highlighted how hardware-software co-design and deep framework integration (PyTorch & JAX) help developers scale frontier models faster. This is huge and a strong signal for the Machine Economy. Tether is leading a landmark Series C round of up to $1.4B for NEURA Robotics, one of the largest private rounds in humanoid robotics history. The key point is not only the size of the round, but what it enables: By integrating Tether’s open-source Wallet Development Kit into NEURA’s robotics ecosystem, robots could gain self-custodial wallet functionality. Robots are moving from machines that execute tasks to autonomous economic agents that can transact, pay, earn, access compute and participate in digital economies. This is exactly where also companies like peaq matter: building the decentralized operative systems for machines, robots, devices and DePINs to interact and create value autonomously.
