Region Realignment

What is Region Realignment?

There are currently 10 IEEE Regions. A Region serves as a fundamental operating organization unit established by the MGA (Member and Geographic Activities) Board. Its primary purpose is for effective management and administration, representing the interests and needs of IEEE members with a designated territory, which may consist of part or all of one or more countries. Regions play a crucial role in fulfilling the missions of IEEE, ensuring responsive and locally tailored support for members across diverse geographic landscapes.

Over the last couple of years, IEEE analyzed its current region and geographic unit structure to ensure there is equitable representation across its global membership. IEEE’s evolving membership demographics have shown a shift with more than 50% of members residing in Regions outside of US. Moving towards a more equitable representation for its members on the MGA and IEEE Boards,  the IEEE has approved a realignment of its Regions, which reduces the number of US Regions from 6 to 5 and splits the current Region 10 into two separate Regions. Beginning January 1, 2028, Regions 1 and 2 will combine to form a new Region 2 (Northeastern & Eastern USA) and Region 10 will split into two separate Regions, Region 10 (North Asia) and Region 11 (South Asia & Pacific)

  • Current Region 10 (Asia Pacific) will be divided into two separate regions
  • The new Region 10 will be called Region 10 (North Asia)
  • The new Region 11 will be called Region 11 (South Asia and Pacific)
