Datuk Harjit Singh Sidhu berkongsi kandungan iniModerated a session yesterday on investing in Malaysia’s AI ecosystem at MDEC’s MDX, bringing together different perspectives on what it will take to turn the country’s growing AI capabilities into real economic value. The discussion featured Informed Solutions chief transformation officer (ASEAN) G Saravanan, HAVI global technology transformation director Daniela Ribeiro and K3 Ventures investment head Thea Tan, we discussed Malaysia's progress in building the foundations — from infrastructure and compute to talent and investment. The next challenge is translating these into stronger Malaysian companies, higher productivity, better jobs and solutions that can compete globally. Ultimately, infrastructure is only the beginning. Datuk Harjit Singh Sidhu berkongsi kandungan iniIn an interview I gave recently, the main point I wanted to get across was that Malaysia’s tax transformation must always be centered on trust and certainty. Digitalisation, e-Invoicing and greater use of transactional data can strengthen tax administration, but technology alone is not enough. Taxpayers must understand what is required of them, how the rules will be applied and how genuine differences can be resolved. Tax practitioners are an important part of the compliance ecosystem, supporting revenue collection through accurate filing and timely payment. A more structured professional framework could strengthen standards and public confidence, while proportionate audits, including an educational approach for SMEs undergoing their first audit, could encourage longer-term compliance. Better information-sharing among agencies could help address the shadow economy, while more disputes should, where possible, be resolved at the LHDNM level through early engagement and the proper application of the law. The Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM) has an important role to play by bringing together the practical experience of tax professionals, listening to taxpayers and serving as a constructive bridge with LHDNM, the Ministry of Finance, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and other agencies. As a newly elected CTIM Council member, I look forward to contributing to this important work. Datuk Harjit Singh Sidhu menyukai kandungan iniDatuk Harjit Singh Sidhu menyukai kandungan iniToday marks two years to the day since I walked into Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) as its CEO, and today I walk out with far more gratitude than I know how to carry. It was a great privilege, but more so, a heavy amanah. Malaysia's digital economy is growing fast, and the measure of our work was never only how much it grew, but who it reached. Every investment we facilitated, every programme we ran, and every platform we built carried the same question: does this leave anyone behind? The small business owner, the farmer, the tahfiz student, and the young graduate outside the big cities all deserve a place in Malaysia's digital future, and that responsibility weighed on me every single day. I am proud of what we built together. Over two years, MDEC secured close to RM180 billion in digital investments from more than 1,000 Malaysia Digital companies, expected to create over 42,000 jobs. We brought a spread of divisions together into two clear pillars, investment and adoption, so that our work runs in one line from investment to people. We helped anchor Malaysia as a destination of choice for digital infrastructure and data centres, the foundations of the nation's AI economy. We set out a national AI compute agenda through NACX, built on a simple promise: AI for Every Malaysian. We modernised how Malaysia brings in talent through the Foreign Talent Management System. And we took digital into places it had never reached, from Digital Tahfiz in our hub schools to our appointment as Implementation Agency for the Ministry of Agriculture's Digital AgTech programme. None of this was mine. All of it was ours. To my colleagues: thank you for your hard work, your contributions, and your dedication, so often given without recognition. To the industry, especially PIKOM, The National Tech Association of Malaysia, thank you so much for the support you have extended throughout the years. As MDEC marks its 30th year, I leave my successor two things. The first is the absolute treasure that is our MDEC talent. The second is the future, and right now, that future is AI. The question for the next chapter is how we harness it for every Malaysian, so that no one is left behind. To the Chairman, Mr Ganesh Kumar Bangah, the Board, my fellow EXCOs, and the incoming leadership, I wish nothing but the very best. My hope is that MDEC's next chapter far surpasses anything I was able to do: that it soars higher, goes further, and keeps faith with our true shareholders; the 33 million Malaysians for whom we are working hard to ensure that no one is left behind. Leading MDEC was the greatest honour of my life. Segala yang baik dari Allah swt, the shortcomings are mine alone. Till we meet again, fare well, with deep gratitude and affection, I thank you all once again.

TERUSKAN SHUHAILY, NEGARA MEMERLUKAN INSAN SEPERTI ANDA!

Leadership is not simply about meeting expectations. It is about seeing what could be better, setting the bar higher, and having the courage to keep pushing the envelope while bringing people along with you. That is something I have seen throughout his leadership. There was always a lot on his shoulders, particularly in navigating complexity and external pressures, but he continued to give his all. What stood out to me was his foresight, ambition, openness and accessibility. Despite the demands of the role, his door was always open, and he remained willing to listen, engage and support the people around him. Thank you for your service to MDEC and for everything you have contributed to the organisation and Malaysia’s digital economy. 🇲🇾 And personally, Anuar Fariz, thank you for the trust, opportunities and support extended to me over the years, and for the encouragement to step up and take on new responsibilities.Wishing you a well-deserved break and nothing but the very best for the chapter ahead. Datuk Harjit Singh Sidhu menyukai kandungan iniInns of Court Malaysia is proud to feature its sterling Exco member Dalvin Kaur, FCIS (CS)(CGP) officiating #SheLeads. #SheDefends. Women in Law, Risk & Digital Governance Forum. Congratulations 🎊Datuk Harjit Singh Sidhu menyukai kandungan iniLast Saturday, I had the privilege of officiating #SheLeads. #She Defends. — Women in Law, Risk & Digital Governance Forum 2026, hosted by WomenAtlas — Building Women Leaders in Kuala Lumpur- super impactful conversations amongst women from different disciplines in the same room . #AIgovernance. #Cybersecurity. #Data protection. #Regulatory expectations. #Risk. #Digitaltrust. My messaging in short: These are no longer issues that can be considered in isolation. For those of us in legal and governance, they increasingly intersect — and they require us to think at an enterprise level. The role of legal leadership is evolving with that reality. It is not simply about interpreting the law or responding when an issue arises. It is also about helping organisations ask the right questions early, understand the implications of emerging risks, and make decisions with clarity, accountability and sound judgement. This is exactly why women need to be in the room while policies are being drafted — not after. #Trust, once a soft concept, is now a #governancesasset. And building it into frameworks from the outset takes the judgement, lived perspective, and influence that women bring to decision-making tables across law, risk and technology. That is why forums like this matter. I was particularly struck meeting two amazing women- Rita Irina Wahab, -powerful opening delivery on #Purpose #Lift #Trust (PLT) and the cheerful & charming Dr. Diyana , I was totally immersed in her impactful slides & conversation around #Empathy and why #WordsMatter for mental health . Thank you to WomenAtlas for bringing this community together and for creating a platform centred on substantive professional dialogue. It was a pleasure to officiate She Leads. She Defends. 2026 and to be part of the conversation. #WomenAtlas #SheLeadsSheDefends #WomenInLaw #LegalLeadership #Governance #Risk #DigitalTrust #AIGovernance #CGIM Maybank Maybank Investment Banking Group I

📢 E-Invoice Update The e-Invoice exemption threshold has increased from RM1 million to RM3 million, effective 1 September 2026. Generally, taxpayers with annual turnover or revenue below RM3 million are exempt. However, certain exceptions apply, particularly involving non-individual shareholders, holding companies, related companies and joint ventures. 💡 Already implemented e-Invoice from 1 July 2026? If you now qualify for the exemption, you may cease e-Invoice implementation from 1 September 2026. Voluntary implementation is still encouraged by HASiL. 📌 Remember: Check your group structure and related entities before determining your exemption status. 📢 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐚𝐱 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 & 𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 As Malaysia moves towards greater tax transparency and digital enforcement, businesses should expect more stringent compliance requirements and intensified audit activity from 2026 onwards. Tax authorities are increasingly leveraging digital reporting systems, data analytics, and cross-agency information sharing to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and non-compliance—well before an audit letter is issued. 🔍 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 More detailed documentation will be required to support corporate tax filings, submitted digitally alongside tax returns. Self-assessment mechanisms, including for stamp duty, will place greater responsibility on businesses to ensure accuracy and proper classification. An anti-graft group has called for closer scrutiny of professional intermediaries to close oversight gaps that allow offshore income and assets to remain hidden from tax authorities. Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) said intermediaries like lawyers, accountants, company secretaries and trust or corporate service providers often play a key role in facilitating offshore outflows — although they do not move funds themselves. TI-M president Raymon Ram, MSc (Econ. Crime Mgt.), CFE, CAMS, ISO ABMS LA said Bank Negara Malaysia’s National Risk Assessment (NRA) 2023 identified these intermediaries as being vulnerable to misuse as professional enablers, especially in the “movement or layering of illicit funds”. 💼✨ Section 5 of the CGST Act — Because Even GST Officers Need Superpowers! ✨💼 If you ever felt your manager delegates too much, wait till you meet Section 5 of the CGST Act, 2017 — the official rulebook entry that basically says: “Officers can exercise powers… and also delegate them… but responsibly, okay?” (Yes, even the law sounds like a concerned parent sometimes.) In simple words, Section 5 defines the powers of officers under GST, specifying who can do what, and more importantly who can ask someone else to do it for them. Because what’s GST without a bit of structured delegation, right? 🔍 Key highlights: Section 5(1): Officers can exercise powers of their subordinates. Finally, a place where “acting junior” is totally legal and encouraged. Section 5(2): Officers may delegate their powers to others, with conditions. In other words: “I trust you… but not that much.” Section 5(3): Appellate authorities have to act independently. No influence, no pressure not even from that one over-enthusiastic officer who thinks GST stands for “Give Suggestions Tirelessly.” Section 5(4): Revisional powers can be exercised subject to certain restrictions. Yes, even revisional authorities have boundaries unlike our beloved group WhatsApp admins. 💡 Why Section 5 Matters? Because in a system as vast as GST, clear power lines ensure: ✔ Smooth administration ✔ Minimal overlap ✔ No “I thought YOU were supposed to do it!” moments (Imagine GST without defined powers — it would be the tax version of a group project gone wrong.) 🔚 Final Thought Next time paperwork feels heavy, just remember GST officers have an entire legal choreography of powers to manage before they even get to your file. Respect. 🙏😄 #GST #IndirectTax #CGSTAct #Section5 #ICAI #TaxHumour #LinkedInPost

[Tax A Minute] e-Invoice FAQs Finally got Updated! The latest update to the e-Invoice Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) brings one major change that affects most businesses: the annual turnover exemption threshold has officially increased from RM500,000 to RM1,000,000. The exemption threshold also affects the implementation timeline, as Phase 5 taxpayers who were supposed to start implementing e-invoicing on 1 July 2025 are now exempted. 🔍 What Changed? Previously, businesses with annual revenue below RM500,000 were exempted. Now, the bar has been raised: Taxpayers with an annual turnover of below RM1 million are eligible for exemption, provided that they’ve met the criteria stated in Part 3: e-Invoice for MSME of the FAQ. 📅 Key e-Invoice Implementation Dates to Know Regardless of category, these dates now anchor the implementation timeline: 1️⃣ 1 July 2026: The concessionary e-Invoice implementation date. Most businesses - Whether exempted initially, and exceeding RM1 million, or not meeting the exemption criteria in YA2023, YA2024 or YA2025, will fall on this start date. 2️⃣ 1 January in the second year following the YA: Applies when a taxpayer qualifies for exemption initially but later exceeds RM1 million in YA2026 and the years thereafter. Example: If revenue hits RM1 million in YA2026, e-Invoice starts 1 January 2028. 3️⃣ Operation commencement date: If a new business does not meet the exemption criteria, e-Invoice begins on the commencement day (or 1 July 2026, whichever is later). 🧾 Note: Businesses with non-individual shareholders, subsidiaries, or related companies earning at least RM1 million are not eligible for exemption, even if their own revenue is below RM1 million.
