Anyone looking at the Rhine these days will see wide gravel banks in many places, exposed riverbanks and unusually low water levels. Hot and dry summers are increasingly causing water levels to fall. For shipping and for the companies located along the river, this is a challenge. For centuries, the Rhine has been one of Europe’s lifelines. It connects the Alps with the North Sea, flows through several countries and has shaped business, culture and history like few other rivers. Industrial centers, ports and cities line its banks. Millions of people live and work in its catchment area. For many, the Rhine is a source of livelihood, a transport route and a place of recreation all at once.

Interested in more details about the Q2 2026 financial results we published today? Our CFO Dirk Elvermann has just shared the presentation from today's analyst conference call, providing deeper insights into BASF's strong second-quarter performance and the progress we are making with our "Winning Ways" strategy. From volume growth and pricing momentum to CoreShift, portfolio measures, capital allocation and our increased full-year outlook, the presentation provides a comprehensive view of how BASF is strengthening its competitiveness and creating value. Take a look below. #BASF_pcon #BASFreport #InvestorRelations

BASF published half-year results for 2026 this morning. Prior to that we announced that we intend to buy back shares with a volume of up to €1.0 billion from August 2026 until April 2027. This is part of the total buyback volume of at least €4 billion by the end of 2028 announced in September 2024. Between November 2025 and June 2026, we already bought back around 3.5 percent of the outstanding shares for around €1.5 billion. The decision reflects the major progress we are making in executing our Winning Ways strategy. In the first half of 2026, we strengthened our market position, significantly improved earnings and raised our full-year earnings outlook. At the same time, we continue to improve competitiveness and advance key portfolio measures. Alongside attractive shareholder distributions, we remain focused on further strengthening BASF’s financial position. A significant portion of the proceeds from our portfolio measures is being used to reduce financial debt, for example by repaying bonds and loans ahead of their maturities. This supports our single A credit rating. We are also maintaining strict capital discipline and expect capex to consistently stay below depreciation until 2028. At the same time, we continue to evaluate value-accretive opportunities to strengthen and grow our core businesses. For me, this is what disciplined capital allocation is all about: balancing investments in BASF’s future, a strong balance sheet and attractive shareholder returns. By doing so, we create the financial flexibility to strengthen our core businesses and generate value over the long term. #BASF_pcon #BASFreport #InvestorRelations

Q2 2026 showed: BASF is delivering. Stronger prices and higher volumes drove earnings growth in all but one segment. We strengthened our position in the market, continued to create value for our customers, and pushed our restructuring forward with discipline. I am proud of the progress our teams are making across BASF. Thank you to everyone for their efforts. #wegotthis

Today, the European Commission outlined its plans to reform the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS). The proposal contains elements we can build on. However, it falls clearly short of the signal Europe’s energy-intensive industries need: a strong commitment to restoring competitiveness, easing the pressure of rising carbon costs and making industrial transformation in Europe feasible. 👉 The key issues are timing and impact. Most measures would only take effect after 2030. But companies are exposed to rising carbon costs today. Free allocation is tied to investment plans and project execution – even though enabling conditions are not yet in place. Relief may simply come too late – and with another layer of bureaucracy attached. Europe risks losing further ground in global competition – with consequences for jobs, investment, and value creation. 🔎 From my perspective, one thing is clear: We cannot first weaken the competitiveness of existing production and then expect companies to deliver the transition to net zero. It has to work the other way around. Transformation starts with competitive sites, a framework that reflects industrial realities, and a credible business case. 🚧 These proposals cannot remain as they are. I stand ready to work constructively with policymakers at EU and Member State level to substantially improve this proposal. The priority is clear: to stop the carbon cost escalation, both short-term and medium-term. #EUETS #makeitcount #competitiveness

What do tights, music recordings, insulation materials, vitamins, running shoes and wind turbines have in common? At first glance, not much. And yet there is something that connects them: many of these products are based on innovations from BASF. That is one of the special characteristics of chemistry. Unlike consumer goods manufacturers, BASF rarely appears directly in people’s everyday lives. The products usually do not carry a visible BASF logo. Our innovations are hidden in materials, ingredients or technical solutions. They often remain invisible – yet they shape our daily lives. For more than 160 years, BASF has been developing new products, processes and technologies. Some have changed entire industries; others continue to solve challenges that millions of people barely notice. Together, they tell the story of a company that has reinvented itself time and again.
