Jake Reiner shares ‘rage’ over parents’ ‘infuriating’ deaths as brother Nick awaits trial for murders: ‘I will never understand’

Jake Reiner described his grief journey — and the “rage” he’s experiencing — in his first sit-down interview since the murders of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner.

“It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn’t get a say in what happened,” the late couple’s eldest child explained to KABC-TV’s Marc Cota-Robles on Thursday. “I didn’t get to stop it from happening.

“I had no choice in the matter,” the 35-year-old continued. “I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this.”

He added, “I’ll never understand. I don’t care how it’s explained to me. I don’t care what facts come out. I will never understand why this happened.”

Jake also made a brief comment about the “surreal” crime scene.

Rob and Michele were killed in their California home in December 2025, with their middle child, Nick Reiner, arrested for the slayings.

Jake, according to KABC-TV, refused to answer multiple questions about Nick’s ongoing trial — but did confirm he has not spoken to his sibling.

Jake, additionally, has not attended any of Nick’s court appearances and neglected to comment on the 32-year-old’s attempt to access their family trust.

When asked whether it was “ever a fear … that something like this could happen, that [Nick] was capable,” Jake replied with a smile, “I don’t think I want to answer that one.”

However, he did say, “I mean, he’s in jail so… you know, it’s like I physically lost my parents and then Nick was arrested and now it’s just me and Romy [Reiner].”

Jake looked back on the “unconditional love” Rob and Michele had for their kids before dying at 78 and 70, respectively.

“I can tell you they never stopped wanting to help him,” he said of Nick, who struggled with drug abuse and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. “They never stopped helping him.”

He went on to call “Becoming Charlie,” a 2015 movie loosely based on Nick’s life, “a way for [Rob] to try and connect with” his youngest son.

The duo’s 28-year-old sister, Romy, has yet to speak publicly about the tragedy — but did join Jake to throw the first pitches at a Los Angeles Dodgers game earlier this month.

The duo also reportedly testified in front of the grand jury that indicted Nick on two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait, which he has pleaded not guilty to.

On Sept. 15, a pre-trial hearing for the murder case is scheduled to take place.
