Membership

We’re not the nation’s only professional organization for playwrights, but we are the most inclusive, with the deepest well of resources.

Whether you’re working on your first-ever first draft or preparing for another season of productions, we offer a broad range of services to help you find the support you need. All for a much lower fee than other comparable organizations. Individual and group membership plans available.

Benefits

Our membership team has been successfully caring for thousands of playwrights for dozens of years. No one is better at knowing what playwrights need – right now, today, in an ever-shifting theater landscape – and we’ve tailored our benefits to meet those needs.

01

Our opportunities database is human-curated and regularly updated with our members in mind, so you won’t miss the perfect fit for you. Class Discounts

Do you have a play in you, or a play in progress? Don’t know where to start, or exploring a new form? We have a class taught by a professional playwright that will help you finish that play and get it ready for submission opportunities. Discounted for members only.

Script Club

Sign up to read scripts, see what your peers are up to, and hone your feedback skills. Each month you’ll receive a fresh batch of scripts and submit written feedback to the playwright, or submit your own play. Script Club submissions can also be read aloud at Member Open Play. Get into the mix, and you just might meet your new favorite playwright!

What members are saying

Playwrights’ Center does a masterful job of supporting writers at all stages of their careers. What can sometimes feel like writing in an echo-chambered void, Playwrights’ Center reminds us that community is just as important to the work.

I have found over 90% of the theaters in the U.S. and around the world that have done over 280 productions and readings of my plays in the last dozen or so years solely through the Playwrights’ Center’s Bulletin Board. My deepest thanks.

The Playwrights’ Center support staff are incredibly responsive and an invaluable resource.

For an Australian playwright, a theatrical life outside one’s own country can feel a very remote possibility. Joining Playwrights’ Center has given me an enormous amount of new energy and wider scope. It brings the world to my small bayside suburb.

The Theater Begins Here podcast is my favorite way to start the day…The conversations offer inspiring and varied ways to think about making a life (and path) in the theater. When so much of a playwriting life is spent alone, it’s been a bright note in my day, a lifeline to our community, and a way to remember there is kindness, compassion, and hope in our industry.
