We’re not the nation’s only professional organization for playwrights, but we are the most inclusive, with the deepest well of resources.
Whether you’re working on your first-ever first draft or preparing for another season of productions, we offer a broad range of services to help you find the support you need. All for a much lower fee than other comparable organizations. Individual and group membership plans available.
Benefits
Our membership team has been successfully caring for thousands of playwrights for dozens of years. No one is better at knowing what playwrights need – right now, today, in an ever-shifting theater landscape – and we’ve tailored our benefits to meet those needs.
Submission Opportunities
Ever heard about a fellowship or call for submissions, just a few days too late? Our opportunities database is human-curated and regularly updated with our members in mind, so you won’t miss the perfect fit for you. Easily filter through close to 1000 new opportunities each year, and bookmark your favorites!
Class Discounts
Do you have a play in you, or a play in progress? Don’t know where to start, or exploring a new form? We have a class taught by a professional playwright that will help you finish that play and get it ready for submission opportunities. Discounted for members only.
Script Club
Sign up to read scripts, see what your peers are up to, and hone your feedback skills. Each month you’ll receive a fresh batch of scripts and submit written feedback to the playwright, or submit your own play. Script Club submissions can also be read aloud at Member Open Play. Get into the mix, and you just might meet your new favorite playwright!
Member Open Play
Each month you’ll get the chance to connect with new play enthusiasts and fellow members, while reading a script aloud together–maybe yours! Members can submit their scripts to be read, and participate in any Member Open Play in person or online.
Online Learning Library
Our library is constantly expanding with podcasts, articles, videos…all available to you for free when you sign in. Poke around to find help with anything that’s troubling you, or get inspired by the words of another playwright.
Community
Playwrights’ Center bridges gaps and fosters relationships. We host regular events at our newly-built arts center in the Twin Cities, as well as an online concourse and pop-up events around the country. You might think your dilemma is unique, but membership gives you access to experienced, compassionate, and practical support from the right person at the right time.

One-on-one Dramaturgy
Get connected with a dramaturg who will give you professional, constructive feedback on a draft of your play. The dramaturg is the play’s first audience member, whose role is to respond authentically, share what they see and hear, be curious, and ask questions. Different options are available depending on your particular needs and how you like to receive feedback.
Member Workshop Readings
Hear your script read by professional actors in a private workshop setting at Playwrights’ Center, with feedback from a professional dramaturg. Member workshop readings are cast by Playwrights’ Center staff, but are completely playwright-driven. These readings are closed workshops with no audience; the focus is on developing your play instead of showcasing it.
