Thanks for the PR!
I haven't performed visual smoke tests yet, but it seems like changes have been made to areas unrelated to the design system. The medium font in the global styles UI and font library should be maintained as it is intended for content creation.

Agreed, I also noticed that the AI agent instructed of the migration overshot the changes. I'm reverting the changes that affect site content. |

I'm surprised how many places are already using a hard-coded 600 already!
Aside from @t-hamano 's points, this is looking generally good to me from a strictly technical perspective.
Haven't validated the fallback usage of Text / Heading components that were updated to use the CSS property instead of a hard-coded value. I'm assuming our fallback logic kicks in there, and that eventually we'd want to replace those to use a standard variant.

LGTM after latest changes from technical point-of-view 👍 I like how the updated naming gives us future flexibility to revisit this without binding ourselves to specific font weights.

Separately, we should figure out what to do with these tokens pages. Seems like we might want to remove them in favor of design tokens equivalent documentation? Right now it's kinda mixed between base-styles Sass variables and design tokens CSS propertites.

I was worried this would impact wordpress-develop, because it copies styles from the pinned Gutenberg SHA, so they'd arrive imminently at next Gutenberg SHA update and not at the convenience of the next explicit package update. But as far as I can tell, it doesn't actually use the package Sass files. It does have its own copies of these variables that should be reconciled, but those variables also have no consumers currently from what I can find.

Trunk removed $font-weight-medium in #80093; the chip now uses var(--wpds-typography-font-weight-emphasis) like the rest of the collab sidebar.

The discussion in #80020 raised a simpler alternative to the adjusted Segoe font-face approach: stop using 500 as the design-system emphasis weight.
The semantic names describe why a weight is used and allow its numeric value to change without renaming the public token. The current emphasis value is 600, whose fallback behavior preserves hierarchy more reliably when 500 is unavailable.
How?
packages/theme/tokens/typography.jsonremains the source of truth:default: baseline text weight for body copy and UI textemphasis: elevated text weight for labels, controls, and headingsNo replacement Sass aliases are added. Base-style mixins and repository styles consume the CSS tokens directly.
$font-weight-regularand$font-weight-mediumare removed as breaking npm changes. Stylelint blocks both names in repository code and directs consumers to the semantic design-system tokens.Token availability and fallbacks are covered across the build paths:

Resolved in this PR. Theme typography tokens are canonical; legacy Sass, Components, Storybook, editor-injected, and generated admin-page stacks now match. The mono stacks were already aligned.
Font size and line height
The six base-styles font sizes and six line heights already match the theme token values exactly.
@wordpress/componentsalso has older semantic/calculated sizes and a unitless1.4line height. Those are not one-to-one token copies. They should be audited by component role and replaced only where an exact WPDS equivalent exists.Font weight
Design-system baseline and emphasis styles now use the
