Synopsis

Based on the comic character created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, Dredd is a sci-fi action movie that stars Karl Urban as Judge Dredd, a law enforcement officer who can commute sentences as quickly as he issues them. Set in a dystopian New York-like city called Mega-City One, Dredd is tasked with hunting down a drug lord who controls a massive 200-story apartment complex named Ma-Ma, pushing a new addictive drug called "Slo-Mo" that has become widely used in the slums.

Karl Urban absolutely rocks as Dredd. The film is lean with fantastic action throughout. Wish it did better as I think a sequel could have really knocked it out of the park. Dredd does a great job introducing you to this Cyberpunk world and remains tense throughout. Maybe someday it might actually be continued.

Urban was perfect as Dredd, followed the feel of the comic. Would absolutely love to see another film with the same cast. Crowd Fund a sequel, go with the Judge Death Story. SciFi Horror at its best.

Fine sci-fi action thriller with some dry humour and good performances. Neill Blomkamp (Chappie, District 9) should direct a follow-up. He devised an Aliens sequel treatment which looked impressive.

Truly excellent comic adaptation that nails a lot of the gritty tone of comic Dredd but none of the social commentary or parody - still, you can't have everything. An entire movie set around sci-fi cops fighting their way up a skyscraper to a drug lord. It's a crime we never got a sequel.

Dredd is a weird entity in regards to comic book movies. In some ways, it was ahead of its time by looking away from the cape escapades and finding other subgenres, and its action doesn't feel like it was simply trying to cash in on the 3D trend, and stands out on its own. As such, the movie's actions and cast are its strength, especially Karl Urban's Dredd. However, I am left wanting some of the lighter satire of the comics that first introduced me to the story, something that Urban has excelled at exploring in The Boys.

Good guys(dodgy), bad guys(definitely) & then Dread, a challenge to both. The law is clear. Great story backed up great presence by Urban. A second Dread is needed ASAP.
