A spinoff of the popular Despicable Me film series, Minions is a prequel that focuses on the Minion's time before they worked for Gru. After serving several notorious evildoers throughout history, they are left without a master and desperately searching for a purpose in life.

While Minions: The Rise of Gru still can't entirely justify itself, it does provide a far more heartfelt and fun outing than the previous movie.

Send confirmation emailThis movie proved that the Minions can stand pretty well on their own without Gru. On their search for a new boss, the Minions become wrapped up in a scheme to steal the crown from the Queen of England. Scarlet Overkill is one of the better villains in the Despicable Me franchise and her performance in this film is phenomenal. Over an hour of minion antics is a bit much at times, but overall, the film is pretty enjoyable.
I don't know what is wrong with me but I think this movie is so funny. It's juvenile of course, but there is such a relentless energy to this that it becomes admirable. King Bob is a cinematic treasure. Probably my favorite movie in the Despicable Me Universe.
