Youth

Ryan Thomas Gosling was born on November 12, 1980, in London, Ontario. His father, Thomas Ray Gosling, was a traveling salesman for a paper mill, while his mother, Donna, was a secretary. Gosling is of French Canadian descent, with some German, English, Irish, and Scottish roots. The family moved around a lot due to the father's work. His parents divorced when he was 13, leading him and his older sister Mandi to live with their mother.

Education

Ryan Gosling attended Gladstone Public School and admitted that he "hated" being a child, in part because he was bullied in elementary school. He went on to attend Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School as well as Lester B. Pearson High School. Gosling did struggle at times in school, leading to his mother homeschooling him for a period, which gave him a sense of autonomy. He ultimately dropped out of high school at 17 to pursue acting.

Career

Like several other stars around his age, Gosling got his start on The Mickey Mouse Club House. His 1993 audition led him to a two-year contract, though he had limited screen time because others were considered more talented than him, though he loved his time on the show. His co-stars included Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, JC Chasez, and Keri Russell.

Gosling also appeared on TV shows like Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps before landing the title role on the short-lived series, Young Hercules. He started to land film roles in Remember the Titans (2000) and Murder by Numbers (2002) before he broke out in The Notebook (2004). From there, Gosling has done a bit of everything, starring in Lars and the Real Girl (2007), Blue Valentine (2010), Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011), Drive (2011), La La Land (2016), Blade Runner 2049 (2017), Barbie (2023), and more.

Personal Life

Ultimately, Ryan Gosling is quieter about his personal life than a lot of stars. It's known that he dated past co-stars Sandra Bullock from 2002 to 2003 and Rachel McAdams from 2005 to 2008. He met Eva Mendes on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) and the two stared a relationship. They had two daughters, born in 2014 and 2016, but haven't confirmed if they're married or not.
