I consider it a blessing to be in a position where I can make this decision on my own terms. No new roles, no new companies, just a deliberate choice to slow down and embrace the next chapter of my life. After decades driven by goals and achievement, my new focus is learning the art of unwinding. Many asked what my plans are. The honest answer is I do not have any, and I am perfectly comfortable with that. I am taking each day as it comes. I recently came across a new phrase in Italian, “dolce far niente”, the sweetness of doing nothing. I think that’s a good place to start. Thank you to everyone who has been part of my journey over the years. I’m deeply grateful for your support, friendship, and the many shared experiences along the way. Wishing you all the very best in your own journeys!

Ayush Keshan liked thisAyush Keshan liked thisJapan is one of the hardest recruitment markets to work in..... 🇯🇵 Japan is just different to any other market: - The population is ageing and the working-age population is shrinking. - Unemployment is extremely low. - There is still cultural pressure of lifetime employment ("shushin koyo") and seniority-based pay ("nenko") makes mid-career job switching rare and traditionally risky for local candidates - There are more job vacancies than available candidates - Many of the best candidates are passive and aren't actively applying for jobs. - LinkedIn and other global platforms only have 5% penetration amongst local Japanese candidates. For international companies, the challenge becomes even harder when you're looking for someone who combines very specific technical or industry expertise + Japanese + business-level English. That's exactly why we have invested in having a dedicated Japanese-speaking recruitment team based full-time in Tokyo. Having someone locally who understands the language, culture and talent market makes a huge difference. Rather than starting a search from scratch every time we receive a new role, we're constantly mapping the Japanese market, speaking with local talent and building relationships with people in the specialist areas where our clients regularly hire. Ayush Keshan liked thisAyush Keshan liked thisYesterday was tough. I completed the Sydney Marathon, but there were moments when I probably had no business finishing it. My preparation had been far from ideal. I've been carrying injuries for much of the last 12 months and, 10 days ago, I was seriously considering withdrawing. But pulling out didn't sit right with me.The TCS Sydney Marathon has become an iconic event, now in its second year as part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, and I was fortunate enough to secure a ballot entry. Withdrawing at the last minute would have meant a spot that someone else would have happily taken simply went unused. So I decided to show up and see what happens. Sydney put on an absolutely stunning day and the first half actually went surprisingly well. Given my preparation, I was probably running a better race than I had any right to expect. Then reality arrived. At around the 26km mark, my right knee decided it had had enough. Things deteriorated quickly and I found myself in the medical tent wondering whether my day was over. Part of me was ready to stop. There was no point pushing on and risking serious damage. But that didn't sit right either.I spend my professional life talking about resilience. I work with organisations that need to find ways to keep operating when things don't go according to plan. I often tell customers that resilience isn't about preventing every problem. It's about what you do when the problem arrives. Sitting in that medical tent, it felt a little hypocritical to be talking about resilience on Monday if I wasn't prepared to demonstrate a little of it on Sunday.Fortunately, resilience is rarely a solo effort. My team yesterday, and my heroes, were Eli and Faisal, the two medicos at the 26km medical station. They patched me up just enough to get moving again and gave me a chance to tackle the remaining 16km. It wasn't pretty. I'd already spent 30 minutes in the tent and was no longer chasing a time. There was no personal best. There was plenty of limping. But I finished. And to me, that is the lesson. We often think resilience is about individual determination. In reality, resilience usually comes from having the right people around you when things start going wrong. Like Eli and Faisal. In business, I see exactly the same thing with our MSP partners. When customers are under pressure, dealing with disruption, or trying to recover from something that has gone wrong, the right partner can make all the difference. Yesterday, my MSP team just happened to be wearing medical uniforms.A huge thank you to Eli and Faisal for helping me get to the finish line.
