Rudi Lim shared thisInteresting datapoint about Indonesian Gen Z from a 2024 report by IDN Research Institute. Biggest concern : Social and Economic Inequality. I think their concerns around Social and Economic Inequality reflect their desire to land good jobs, get good income and improve their lives. IDN provided another insight - this concern could be driven by issues like automation / AI. The rise of automation and its implications for employment opportunities. These pressing issues, which directly impact their daily lives and future prospects, may lead them to prioritize these concerns over other longer-term issues such as climate change (too distant - first, I need to survive today). #IDNResearchInstitute #GenZs #azpro

Rudi Lim liked thisRudi Lim liked thisOn Wednesday, I attended Design Launchpad (organised by Design Business Chamber Singapore, WDBO, and Design SG) as part of the World Design Business Forum to evaluate portfolios by young professionals. This would have been my first time doing it in public. A few portfolios reminded me of my early portfolios, that uncertainty about what to show and how to frame it. I've been there before, so I wanted to help...but not without having doubtful thoughts. Sitting alongside with other experienced mentors, and being relatively new as a Creative Technologist, I wondered whether my advice would be useful. Turns out, helping them frame their problems and being someone they could talk to was what actually helped them move forward. I'm glad to have been engaged and given back to the bigger design community. Thankful to have my colleague, Alicia Lee, from GovTech Singapore's Design Practice for joining me and running our booth! #GovTechDesignPractice

Rudi Lim liked thisRudi Lim liked thisSix years ago, in 2021, we launched Service Design Week during the Covid lockdown - a no-budget, no-fee virtual mini-conference for GovTechies by GovTechies. This year, we continued our 6th run in the last week of August! Having led and curated the programme since its inception, I find myself reflecting on what has remained constant through it all. Service Design, at its core, is about identifying the right problem before building the solution - redesigning processes, and sometimes even touching policy, before a single line of code is written. It works on both the 'front stage' that citizens experience, and the 'back stage' that makes it all possible. As ACE Eyung Lim aptly puts it: "Service design is a skill that very much drives the improvement of digital services in government. It doesn't get outdated even when AI is here because people and processes are very much a part of the last mile delivery." What has given me the most satisfaction is seeing how this practice has grown. Long before there was a designer community, business analysts were quietly doing this work. Today, the community is larger, more diverse, and more confident and this year's speakers embodied that beautifully, sharing real stories from the ground, their perseverance through challenges, and the power of bringing users along through co-creation. Special thanks to: - my amazing organising team: Lui Ling, Charlene Chua, Wong Chee Hong, Veronica Sutanto and Jasper Phang - the Lightning Talk speakers this year: * Sherlyn See, Pradeep Kaur, Wei Shu Neo, Raymond Yong, Lucas Poh, Jeanie Tay, Jasmine (KC) Lam, Chris Tan, Vincent Chung, Cheryl Wong who brought in their perspectives practising Service Design in the government agencies, and * Ted Kilian, Lee Mun Yee, Charlene Chua who shared on our special topic of Humans and AI in Service Design, and To every speaker, organiser, and participant who has been part of this journey over six years, thank you for keeping this going. Here's to continuing to Connect, Learn and Be Inspired and to never stop honing our craft, so that the services we design truly make a difference to the people we serve ❤️ #GovTechSDWeek26 #ServiceDesign #GovTech

Rudi Lim liked thisRudi Lim liked thisOn 22 August 2026, I participated in the Build with Gemini Hackathon 2026, organised by Google DeepMind together with Lorong AI. For the Best Elderly Hack track, I developed Arcway, an AI-powered project designed to make technology more accessible for elderly users and help them stay connected. I used Gemini’s capabilities to explore how AI could support a solution that is simple, practical and designed around the needs of older adults. Some of my key takeaways from the hackathon included: - Using Gemini to develop an AI-powered solution - Designing technology with accessibility and elderly users in mind - Turning an idea into a working prototype within a limited time - Improving prompts to produce more useful and relevant responses - Adapting quickly when technical challenges arose Working on Arcway helped me understand that creating a meaningful AI solution involves more than building impressive features. It also requires understanding the users, identifying the challenges they face and ensuring that the technology is easy and comfortable for them to use. The hackathon strengthened my skills in AI development, problem-solving, rapid prototyping and user-centred design. It also showed me how AI can be applied beyond everyday productivity tools to address real social needs, such as digital accessibility and connection among the elderly. It was genuinely inspiring to see the other builders turn their ideas into reality. The room was filled with creativity and excitement, making the experience even more memorable. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate, learn from other builders and bring Arcway to life. I look forward to improving the project and exploring more ways AI can create positive real-world impact. #gemini #gemma #buildwithgemini2026

Rudi Lim liked thisRudi Lim liked thisI felt a sense of sadness after walking the Toa Payoh Life Trail yesterday, as it reminded me that while Singapore has become very good at building hardware, we have not progressed as much in nurturing heartware. It affirms my belief that progress cannot be measured simply by the quality of our infrastructure or the efficiency of our systems, but by whether it uplifts people’s lives, strengthens relationships, and creates a genuine sense of belonging. As I walked through the neighbourhood, it struck me that behind every block, every corridor and every door are people with different stories, needs and aspirations. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞. I am especially mindful of this as I reflect on my past experience with giving.sg and my upcoming writing about Human+: becoming better humans in the Intelligence Age. Through these experiences, I have come to realise that technology can transform the “how”, but only humans can provide the “why”. And it is in the “why” that individuals and communities find purpose, meaning and connection. Perhaps, then, the right question to ask is not “What future can we build?”, but “𝑾𝒉𝒐 𝒘𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒚?” Thank you, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, for creating this meaningful reflection exercise as part of the three-day transformative programme for seasoned professionals navigating life’s next chapter. Rudi Lim liked thisWhy does Momos win in enterprise hospitality? Because this isn’t a typical customer service problem. 1) Super high frequency: Millions of guests. Thousands of locations. Dozens of channels. The volume and complexity demand infrastructure built for scale. 2) Multi-location infrastructure: Traditional horizontal platforms are designed around the customer service agent. Momos is built around every location—supporting thousands of users across an enterprise. 3) Long apprenticeship period with deep domain expertise: We love hospitality and its all we do. Our AI agents achieve resolution rates of up to 90%, compared with roughly 65% for horizontal providers. Purpose-built infrastructure. Hospitality-native intelligence. Enterprise scale. We are so proud to serve some of the largest hospitality brands in the world.Rudi Lim liked this🚀 Momos is now live across 6,000+ locations in North America with one of the largest restaurant brands in the world. At this scale, guest feedback arrives faster than any team can read it. Reviews, surveys, and inquiries from thousands of locations, hour after hour. Most enterprise brands are quietly forced into a tradeoff: hear everything and resolve almost none of it, or resolve a handful and let the rest go silent. Not because they don't care — because caring doesn't scale on its own. This team decided not to accept the tradeoff. Momos is now their listening and resolution layer for a national initiative: 💬 Reviews — every rating and comment across every location, unified 📊 Surveys — sentiment at the location level, not hidden behind a brand average 🎟️ Cases — every inquiry routed, owned, and closed 🧠 Alfie, our Experience agent — working alongside their guest care team and franchisees to resolve and recover at scale The standard we set together is simple: every guest is heard, and every issue is resolved as fast as possible. What I'm most proud of is what it took to be ready for this. Four years ago, the largest brand we could serve was 100 locations. 2022 — 100 locations 2023 — 250 2024 — 1,500 2025 — 3,500 2026 — 6,000+ Every jump was earned the hard way, and it was our engineering team that earned it. Enterprise at this size isn't the same product with a bigger number next to it, and the hardest part wasn't volume — it was structure. A national brand is a corporate team, hundreds of franchise groups, and thousands of general managers, each of whom needs to see their own world and nothing else. Our engineers integrated systems that were never designed to talk to each other, built a permissions model with real teeth, and got alerting to reach the one person who can actually fix the issue. All of that complexity sits underneath, and none of it reaches the operator who has countless things to do each day. None of it ships on time without our account management team, who spent this rollout as forward deployed engineers — embedded with the brand, pulling requirements out of a dozen stakeholders, translating it into something our engineers could build. A real thank you to the team on the brand side. They didn't treat this as a vendor rollout — they sat in the weeds with us for months and made the product better than we could have on our own. We are excited to build this partnership for the long term!

This paper presents findings from usability evaluation of 'mPAL-my cpf' - a mobile government service provided by Central Provident Fund, Singapore. 20 users between 22-45 years of age participated in the tests. The focus of evaluation was to assess the mental model, information architecture and perceived utility of the overall application as well as learnability, efficiency, and comprehension of the 6 specific offerings. A total of 65 usability problems were found with most severe issues observed in understanding how the m-service works and installing it on the mobile phone. Navigation problems included inconsistent placement of options tagged to soft keys and accidental logouts. Problems in information comprehension included excessive text and inability to find the key data quickly. Despite convenience of ubiquitous and anytime access, overall utility of 'mPAL' service was perceived as low by users due to complexity involved in using it, lack of unique value as compared to accessing the same information via website, and concerns about security. Based on these and other findings, the paper also recommends a broad framework for designing and evaluating future m-government applications.

Enterprise tech has a design problem. Too often, design is treated as “look and feel” — a coat of paint added at the end. But this mindset is cumbersome -- and costly. Poorly designed systems overwhelm employees, slow adoption, and in high-stakes industries can carry huge consequences. Design isn’t optional. It’s a strategy. It’s systems thinking. It’s the force that makes technology actually work for people. Look at Slack, Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Figma. Each transformed not just tools, but the way people connect, collaborate, and create. That shift didn’t come from technology alone — it came from design. Where design takes the lead, transformation inevitably follows — that’s the future of enterprise.
