Help:Example episode article

From Transformers Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This article presents a (somewhat silly) made-up example episode of a Transformers cartoon. Its purpose is to show and explain the sections used by Episode articles and provide an example of how to properly document the events and details thereof.

If the article needs any kind of disambiguation tag, it should be placed at the very top of the article.
Please avoid placing two or more disambiguation tags as possible to keep the top of the page clean.
The name or term "Example" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Example (disambiguation).
Episode articles should feature an episode infobox template containing all of the relevant production information. The infobox has multiple parameters which can be set:
  • otherseries: The name of the show in question, which should be wikilinked with the episode number next to it. Some older series have their own template in place of this, but as those episodes are all listed in full, you shouldn't ever have to use them, so just use the otherseries parameter for all future episode pages.
  • prev: Enter the name of the previous episode's page, and the template will automatically create an arrow link to it. In instances where other media occurs between episodes chronologically or the order differs in the Japanese broadcast, additional parameters can be used to add another arrow link below the first one, though this is a much more rare occurrence.
  • next: Same thing, but for the next episode.
  • image: A space for a screencap of the episode. Upload an image and enter its filename here; the template will automatically resize it to fit the infobox's dimensions.
  • caption: Add a descriptive or funny caption for the image above. Please read the Caption Policy before creating or changing captions.
  • title: The title of the episode.
  • production code: The production code for the episode. This is often not immediately evident just from watching the episode, and may require an external source to verify.
  • airdate: The date of the episode's original airing on TV. Generally this should refer to the first United States broadcast, though additional airings may be listed if it premieres in English outside the US or via official online channels first.
  • season: The season number which the episode is a part of.
  • season ep: The episode number within the season.
  • writer: The writer of the episode. You can also use written by as an alternative. If more than one, use the parameter "writers" instead.
  • director: The director of the episode. You can also use directed by as an alternative. If more than one, use the parameter "directors" instead.
  • animation studio: The studio that animated the episode.
  • production company: The company that produced the episode. For most modern Transformers cartoons, that would be eOne.
  • video: URL to watch the episode via video streaming platforms, if applicable. Generally speaking, the link should point to an upload that is both free and available worldwide, unless the episode is exclusive to a specific streaming platform such as Netflix, in which case the link should point there instead. This should only be used for official uploads of the episodes by Hasbro or their affiliates; TFWiki.net does not condone piracy.
  • videosite: The name of the website on which the above video is hosted. Some sites like YouTube and Netflix feature unique icons that appear if one of them is entered as the site name

The Autobots and Decepticons engage in battle via a new medium: eSports.

The article should begin with a bolded logline of the episode's basic plot, usually no more than a single sentence. We generally prefer that these be original rather than copied directly from the official loglines or those on streaming services.
The Table of Contents appears automatically if you have enough sections. You can use the {{TOCclear}} template to force a Table of Contents to appear.

Synopsis

Synopsis sections are written "in-universe" and in the present tense. "The Autobots travel to Charr," as opposed to "in this episode, the Autobots traveled to Charr". While you shouldn't list every single detail (fight scenes should be a general description rather than a blow-for-blow recap, for example), summaries should be fairly comprehensive and include all the most important details. A good summary of an average 22-minute episode will probably hover somewhere arond 7 or 8 decently-sized paragraphs. We also encourage you to add a few inline images, though please don't add so many that they end up extending the section well beyond the length of the summary itself.

Featured characters

Characters in italic text appear only in flashbacks.
(Numbers indicate order of appearance.)

Articles should include a complete list of characters that appeared in the episode, numbered in the order in which they appear. In instances where multiple characters appear simultaneously, don't sweat over whether one of them appeared one frame before the others and simply use your best judgment. (Some editors may choose to resolve this by listing simultaneous character appearances based on their positioning from left to right, front to back, or in the order in which they speak.) Different categories will determine where the character appears in the character table: C1 is for Autobots, C2 is for Decepticons, C3 is for humans, C4 is for others like unaligned bots or prominent animal characters, and C5 is for...well, every other miscellaneous instance that doesn't somehow fit the first four columns.

Quotes

Quotes sections are for especially memorable quotes said in the episode. Whether they're cool, funny, emotional, corny, or whatever else have you, if it left an impact, this is where you put it. That said, please exercise restraint, as it's very easy for this section to become bloated; as a rule-of-thumb, try to limit the number of quotes for a single episode to five or six. Examples of formatting for single-character quotes, two-character exchanges, and multi-character dialogue are listed below.

"Pwnage is the right of all sentient beings."

Optimus Prime is a real gamer.

"No! He was cheating, I know it! There's no way anyone could push a button that fast!"
"This better not lead to another 'heated seeker moment' of yours..."
"That was one time!"

Starscream is dunked on by Slipstream.

Thundercracker: "Construct additional pylons! Do an OTG into a DHC! Push Mid!"
Soundwave: "Does he understand any of the words he is saying right now?"
Shockwave: "Absolutely not."

—The Decepticons debate proper terminology usage.

Notes

Notes sections are written out-of-universe. They include several subsections for different types of notes, which are elaborated upon below:

Continuity notes

This section is for noting references to previous episodes, such as callbacks to past events, retcons, or other ways in which the episode expands on what has already been established. This can also apply to referencing other shows and media that share direct continuity, such as how Prime, Rescue Bots, Robots in Disguise, and Rescue Bots Academy all exist as part of the same timeline and occasionally reference each other's events.
  • This episode takes place during the decades-long timeskip between seasons 1 and 2 of Cyberverse.
  • Bumblebee's flashback to his conversation with Maccadam seems to take place around the same time as the second flashback scene in "Maccadam's".

Transformers references

This section is for noting references to other Transformers media.

Real-world references

This section is for noting references to non-Transformers media.
  • Optimus is seen wearing a black shirt two silhouettes on it, one high-kicking and the other holding up a single arm to block it, referencing Evo Moment 37.
  • Jem, the lead character of Hasbro's franchise of the same name, can be seen signing autographs in the background of the final scene.

Animation and technical errors

This section is for noting production errors, such as a miscolored character, an incomplete animation render, or a character speaking with the wrong voice. Please make sure examples are actually errors before adding them to the list.
  • Megatron's fusion cannon intermittently disappears during his match, though this may have been done purposefully by the animators to prevent it from clipping through anything while he's sitting down.

Continuity errors

This section is for noting errors with the show's continuity, such as a character who previously died appearing in a scene without explanation, or a character using an ability they will not get until a later episode. Again, make sure any examples are actually an error before adding them; time may prove them to either be the result of episodes being shuffled around from their original production order, or an intentional choice made to surprise viewers and set up a future plotline (in which case it would be better to note this in the continuity notes above).

Other trivia

This section is for noting other worthwhile notes that don't fit into the sections above. This can include behind the scenes trivia or insight from the creative team, notable milestones, or other interesting observations about the episode. Be careful how much you add to this section to avoid bloat. Not every detail is notable, and editors reserve the right to remove "crufty" additions that don't actually add anything of importance.
  • In an interview, writer Ethan Zachary stated he was inspired to write the episode after watching an 8-hour documentary about the history of professional Urban Champion competitions.[1]

Foreign localization

List any foreign language dubs of the episodes, along with their original airdates and any notes that only apply to that language. Languages should be listed in alphabetical order.

French

  • Title: "L'exemple" ("The Example")
  • Original airdate: November 24, 2021
    • For unknown reasons, Bumblebee is consistently referred to as "Rumblebee" in the French broadcast of this episode. No explanation is given, and this does not occur in any other episodes.

Home video releases

All releases listed are in English audio unless otherwise noted.
DVD

Japan 2001 — Transformers Cyberverse — DVD Box 3.14 (Atlus) — Japanese audio only.
United Kingdom 2002 — Transformers Cyberverse: The Complete-ish Series (Nintendo)
United States of America 2002 — Transformers Cyberverse: The Lost Episodes (Sega)

List any physical media releases that include this episode, along with their publisher and region, in the order they were released.

Footnotes

Footnotes sections (optional) should only be included if the article has footnotes. If all of the footnotes are source-of-information citations, this section can be renamed "References", though no one really cares if you leave it named "Footnotes".

External Links

If there are any worthwhile external links that warrant inclusion, put them in this optional section. Keep in mind that some links might be better off as inline citations rather than listed here. Some examples of the sorts of things that belong in this section are below.
  • Link to an archived copy of the full episode script
  • Link to the official upload of a foreign language release of the episode
  • Etc.
Finally, each page should have categories assigned to it. This allows the page to be found in lists of other articles on similar subjects. Categories should be listed in alphabetical order. (Some templates automatically add categories to the front of the list. There's nothing to be done about that, so don't worry.) At the end of the article, simply add in [[Category: _____]], and the page will be placed in the relevant categories. Generally speaking, episode articles should only have one category, that being the episodes category for the show they're a part of. In this case, "The Example" will have the following category:

Cyberverse episodes
Check to make sure you're adding existing categories; in the unlikely event that the series does not have a category for its episodes, please make a note on the show's Talk page, and someone will be happy to set one up when they get the opportunity.
