The future of technology is already taking shape—led by students just getting started. 🧑🎓 💻 This month, we hosted our annual App Design Challenge Showcase in San Jose and Austin, an exciting culmination of six months of growth and innovation from students across both cities. 📱 Throughout the program, students learned our proprietary coding languages #BrightScript and #SceneGraph and built original apps for the Roku platform from the ground up. ⚙️ Along the way, Roku employees engaged with their work, offered feedback, and helped bridge the gap between education and industry. 🤝 Thank you to our partners Code2College and Santa Teresa High School for making this year’s program a success. 🙌 Programs like this are core to how we’re transforming pathways for the next generation of innovators. Seeing students turn curiosity into creation is exactly why this work matters. 💜 #WeAreRoku #SocialImpactAtRoku

Filmmaking has the power to spark change, one story at a time. 🎬 We’re proud to partner with Reel Works to transform pathways for the next generation of storytellers, providing the mentorship, resources, and creative support they need to grow. 🎞️ Through a new advanced documentary lab, aspiring filmmakers are paired one-on-one with Roku creative executives, guiding them through every stage of the filmmaking process. 📽️ Together, they’re creating short documentaries that highlight the real, positive change happening in their communities. “Reel Works believes that when you change the storytellers, you change the world,” says Reel Works co-founder and Chief Program Officer, Stephanie Walter. “Expanding diverse voices deepens connection and impact. We are grateful to Roku for giving our talented young filmmakers a powerful platform to share their stories globally.” 🎥 🌐 This is just the beginning for these storytellers. The connections they’re building and the work they’re creating now can open doors for years to come—and we can’t wait to see the voices this program helps bring to life. 🎦 #WeAreRoku #SocialImpactAtRoku

What does it take to bring an ad experience to life on Roku? 💡 For Matthew W., it starts long before anything reaches the screen. As a Sr. Software Engineer on our Ad Engineering team in Cardiff, Matthew builds the Creative Assets Manager (CAM), a system that lets teams upload, approve, and preview interactive ads like Marquee and Action ads with confidence before they go live on Roku TVs. 📺 One moment that really stuck with him was launching CAM for the first time. 🚀 “The Cardiff office has a strong reputation for being a highly supportive environment, which was vital for this release. Getting the project over the finish line felt like delivering our very first baby. Seeing everyone rallying together to debug and test until the system was absolutely perfect really highlighted our shared dedication and the pride we take in what we build.” 🏴 🤝 ⚙️ For Matthew, it's that collective push toward excellence and the people behind it that make the work meaningful. ✨ #WeAreRoku

Now that it is public information, I can finally announce the release to millions of customers of the game I created with 3 other colleagues: Roku City Dash! Back in late 2025, the four of us participated in Roku’s Hackathon, a company-wide competition where contestants have to come up with a creative idea, implement it, and demo it within 24h. We ended up winning 1st place with a game embedded in the Roku City screensaver – whose code none of us had experience with and which we had to learn in 24h. The project got so much internal traction that it made its way to the public in just 5 months! Please join me in celebrating everyone who participated in the launch and helped turn our game into an exciting user experience, from the leaders Mustafa Ozgen, Brian Tannenbaum, and Frank Maker, PhD who strongly championed our idea; to the amazing team of illustrators Tim Cook, Ryan Terry, Randall Bobbitt, Susy Christiansen, Tony Bui; our coordinators Bindu Datla, MBA; Jacki Klaus; the broader engineering and QA teams Matthieu Chamik, Shashank Merchant, Habib Virji, Meenu Atrey; the UX team Kaushiki Priyam, Alex Strauss, Aya Elarid; and the many others who helped! And most importantly, a big shout out to my fellow co-creators with whom it all started: Jason Too, Brian Hetherman, and Neil Kraewinkels. I could not have picked better teammates to create this game.

Not every student who dreams of working in tech or advertising knows how to get there. That’s where Roku’s Ad Lab Program comes in. 🙂↕️ Through our partnership with the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development, high school students get hands-on experience, real-world exposure, and direct access to careers they may not have otherwise imagined. 🧑🎓 In collaboration with MECA - The Manhattan Early College School for Advertising and Children's Arts and Science Workshops Inc., students work on real advertising projects and connect face-to-face with Roku team members who are passionate about sharing what they know. 🤝 As we spotlight how we’re transforming pathways for the next generation of talent this April, we’re excited to kick off our 2026 programming next month and can’t wait to see what this next group of students brings. ✨ #WeAreRoku #SocialImpactAtRoku
