David Young shared thisI am currently recruiting for the position below on behalf of a leading wellness/fitness organisation. The client is developing an AI-driven Wellness Coach that moves beyond traditional chatbot interactions into a truly intelligent, personalised assistant embedded within native iOS and Android platforms. This role sits at the intersection of Product Design and Conversational Design, requiring someone who can shape end-to-end user experiences. The focus is on designing seamless, AI-powered journeys that leverage LLM capabilities, combining strong product thinking with deep conversational design expertise to create engaging, adaptive wellness experiences that evolve with user needs. https://lnkd.in/e6dawfRx

David Young shared thisI am currently recruiting for the following position. What makes this opportunity particularly exciting is the chance to work on AI in production, not theory, solving real customer and business problems at scale. It’s a role for someone who wants to move beyond traditional UX and be at the forefront of how AI products are designed, governed, and experienced, with a strong focus on trust, usability, and impact. https://lnkd.in/enrTphfU

David Young shared thisI had a briefing call last week with a Design Director whose opinion I really value. While discussing the current state of the market, he shared his view that really got me thinking: with the rise of AI doing so much of the heavy lifting in design, we are about to see a massive resurgence in hand-crafted, human-made UI. I did some digging, and it turns out he's absolutely right. The industry is already seeing a backlash against the "Sea of Sameness" created by AI. When algorithms produce flawless but identical interfaces, the human touches start to stand out a lot more. Some are even calling it the modern equivalent of the Arts and Crafts movement, a rebellion against the mass production of the AI era. What do you think? Are we entering a new golden age for traditional design craft? Let me know below 👇 #ProductDesign #UIDesign #ArtificialIntelligence #Designtrends

David Young posted thisIt feels like 2026 is quickly becoming the year of AI fatigue in product design. And the companies that spot this early are going to have a real advantage. Users are already getting fed up with what people are calling “AI slop” features that are just bolted on so a company can say they’re using AI, without actually solving anything meaningful. The novelty is wearing off. When everything has an AI label, it just becomes noise. For CPOs, the challenge right now is not getting pulled too far into the hype. The teams that will win are the ones using AI properly, in the background and focusing more on things like transparency, user control, and actually being useful. When we’re hiring senior design and product people for clients, we’re looking for leaders who are comfortable pushing back on this stuff. People who care more about research and user trust than shipping a shiny feature no one asked for. That’s the kind of leadership that builds products people actually come back to. #ProductManagement #AIDesign #UserExperience #ProductStrategy #DesignLeadership Trust In SODA

David Young shared thisA lot of recruitment agencies promise you the world but leave you to figure it out entirely on your own. At Trust In SODA, we believe in a “360 First” approach, but with a proper safety net underneath it. Our consultants are empowered to build their own accounts and drive their own success. But they don’t do it in isolation. They benefit from cross-sell opportunities across the Trinnovo Group | B Corp™ established house accounts, and a leadership team that is genuinely invested in their development. We give you the autonomy of a 360 desk with the support and infrastructure of a global, B-Corp certified business operating across the UK, US, Ireland, Germany, and Switzerland. If you are an experienced consultant feeling capped by your current setup, or working in a culture that doesn’t support your growth, it might be time for a change. I am always happy to have an honest conversation about what a move could look like. David Young shared thisWhen we started Trust In SODA 13 years ago, we made a decision early on: we didn’t want to be just another transactional agency. We wanted to build something that genuinely gave back to the industries we were hiring for. That is why we launched Soda Social and Women in DevOps. Fast forward to today, and Women in DevOps is a global movement with over 18,000 followers, actively working to close the gender gap in tech. Being a community-led recruiter isn’t just a tagline for us. It is the foundation of how we operate. It means we know the market deeply, we know the people personally, and we care about the long-term impact of the teams we help build. I am incredibly proud of the communities our team has fostered over the years. It is proof that when you focus on genuinely bringing people together, the business results follow naturally. #CommunityLed #WomenInDevOps #TechCommunity #FounderJourney #TrustInSoda Trinnovo Group | B Corp™

David Young shared thisOne of the things I keep hearing from Heads of Product Design and Design Directors right now is the expectation around this “player-coach” role. Companies want someone to lead the team, mentor juniors, set the strategy… and still jump into Figma and deliver pixel-perfect work on demand. It just doesn’t really work like that. It’s a fast track to burnout. As you move into leadership, you naturally step away from the hands-on work. And that’s how it should be. Your value shifts more towards influencing, managing stakeholders, and helping your team think better, not doing everything yourself. The problem is that a lot of businesses haven’t quite caught up with that yet, or have gone backwards. When we’re working with scaling tech companies on senior hires, a big part of the conversation is just getting clear on what they actually need. If you want a visionary leader, don’t expect them to be in Figma all day. If you want someone hands-on, don’t expect them to manage a team of ten. Getting that balance right from the start is what makes the difference between a great hire and an expensive mistake.
-
David Young shared thisWe’re seeing a pretty big shift in what Product and Design leaders are actually looking for when they build teams in 2026. It’s not just about hiring designers who can use AI tools anymore. It’s about finding people who understand when to use them… and just as importantly, when not to. According to Figma’s State of the Designer report, 73% of hiring managers say there’s a growing need for AI proficiency. But from what I’m seeing day to day, that’s not really the thing that separates people. The real difference is taste, strategy, and the ability to take something complex and make it simple. The teams that are scaling well right now seem to be hiring more generalists - people who use AI to speed up the early stages, so they’ve got more time to focus on the thinking, the problem-solving, and getting to better outcomes. AI raises the floor, but human judgment still sets the ceiling. If you’re leading a design team right now, I’m curious - how are you balancing the push for AI skills with keeping strong design fundamentals? #DesignLeadership #ProductDesign #UXDesign #AIDesign

David Young liked thisDavid Young liked thisMost Series A Agentic startups I speak to want the same type of engineer right now. Not infra. Not platform. Not backend. Full-stack product. A lot of early-stage teams make the same call, which is building the foundation first. Get the infrastructure solid. Standardise the tooling. Harden the backend before you scale. On paper it sounds like the responsible move. In practice I keep seeing the same outcome: a really well-built system that hasn't found its users yet. The full-stack product engineer is the person who closes that gap. They don't wait for perfect infrastructure. Instead, they get something in front of users fast, watch what happens, and rebuild the bits that don't work. At Series A, that feedback loop is worth more than clean architecture. The teams I've seen move fastest this year got that answer early because they had someone who could ship end to end without waiting for everything to be perfect. You can build the foundation properly once you know what you're building it for. Any product engineers based in SF, my DMs are open and would love to discuss roles with you with some of the most exciting VC-backed start-ups in the AI space. 📞

What started as an idea 25 years ago has now grown into an impressive business, completely self-funded, and a highly recognised brand that has consistently generated over £100m in revenue each year. What we’ve achieved at Next Ventures is what many people dream of when starting a business. I can honestly say that building NV alongside Richard Lacey is something I’ll always look back on with immense pride 🤗 I’ve had the privilege of working with some exceptional people over the years, both past and present. The success of Next Ventures has never been down to one individual. Our company has been built by a driven and talented team who have consistently given their all and always strived to over-deliver. It’s always been the people who have made NV so special 🫶 I’m hugely grateful to everyone who has supported my journey at NV: My fiancé, family, clients, candidates, colleagues, and friends. You’ve all played a part in what we’ve achieved. A massive thank you to you all, and especially to my fiancé, Liana ❤️ My journey building NV over the past 25 years has been far from straightforward and has tested my resilience many times. I’ve been married, divorced, met my current partner, and had children all while supporting the business and our team through market downturns, Covid, the inflation crisis and the ongoing international volatility we’re facing 😮💨 Looking back now, would I have wanted my time at NV to have been any easier? No. I’ve loved every moment of that journey as it’s shaped who I am today and taught me lessons no book or classroom ever could have. My business partner, Richard Lacey, is CEO and has been the driving force behind NV’s sales engine for many years now. At my request, Richard stepped up to acquire my shareholding in the business when I approached him. This very clearly demonstrates the passion and belief Richard has in the Next Ventures business. I have full confidence that Next Ventures will continue to go from strength to strength under his stewardship, supported by NV's wider senior leadership team. On a personal note, the past few years have brought me some significant family challenges that I’ve had to deal with. Stepping away from NV now gives me the time I need to focus on what matters most, my family ❤️❤️❤️ For now, I’ll be taking some time to reset, recharge, and reflect on everything we’ve achieved before embracing the next exciting chapter of my life, whatever that may be. Recruitment is changing faster than most agencies are willing to admit. CV scanning, manual shortlists, and gut-feel interviews don’t scale — and they don’t compete with AI that can read thousands of profiles in seconds, match skills objectively, and remove bias from first-round screening. This isn’t a threat to recruiters. It’s a warning. AI won’t replace recruiters, but recruiters who use AI will replace those who don’t. #RecruitmentTrends #AIInHiring #FutureOfWork #HRTech #TalentAcquisition

One month back at OpusRS – here’s what I’m seeing in the JavaScript contract market. It’s been great to get stuck back in, and I’ve already noticed some clear trends across the UK JavaScript contract space. 🏢 Hybrid working is shifting. Fully remote roles are becoming less common, with more contracts now asking for 2–3 days a week in the office. Collaboration and team presence are making a comeback. 💬 Contractors who know how to add value and communicate clearly with clients are being consistently extended. It’s not just about technical ability—commercial awareness and soft skills are making a real difference. 📉 Rates have taken a hit compared to a few years ago, but demand is still strong for those who can hit the ground running. ⚙️ Next.js is gaining serious traction. While React remains dominant with 39.5% of developers using it, Next.js is quickly rising with 17.9% adoption—thanks to its performance benefits and built-in features like server-side rendering and static site generation If you're a contractor looking for your next move, or a business needing top JavaScript talent, I’d love to connect. #JavaScript #NextJS #ReactJS #Contracting #TechRecruitment #OpusRS

London Microservices Event - Q2 2025 Speaker announcement. Our first speaker for next Wednesday's event is David Denton. David is the Co-creator of the popular http4k platform, a recognised Kotlin Google Developer Expert, and an Open-Source enthusiast. His talk is titled "Functional Intelligence: Agents, MCP and the end of the Web(?)" David's talk will explore a future where autonomous systems, powered by standardised protocols, transform how we interact with digital services and fundamentally reshape the human web experience. Instead of humans adapting to clunky UIs and processes, intelligent agents handle these tasks by directly communicating with each other. MCP is hot right now, and if you are looking to understand what is happening in this space or expand on what you know already, you won't want to miss this talk. AI may be dominating the headlines going into 2026, but the real story is talent. After reviewing Pluralsight’s 2026 Tech Forecast, one thing is clear: Technology is accelerating faster than our talent pipelines. Here are the big takeaways shaping UK tech hiring: Entry-level roles are disappearing AI is automating the tasks juniors used to learn from, risking a future shortage of mid-level and senior talent. Organisations that don’t invest in early career pathways today will feel the pain tomorrow. Hiring is getting more expensive; therefore, internal mobility will surge With UK companies now spending £5k+ per IT hire on average, upskilling and cross-skilling existing staff will become a strategic priority. 2026 will be the year of internal career switches, retention, and developing the people you already have. AI literacy matters, but fundamentals matter more. The most valuable professionals will be the ones who can: ✔ use AI effectively ✔ challenge its output ✔ maintain strong cloud, security, and data foundations These “AI translators” will be in huge demand. Cloud, cybersecurity, and data remain core hiring pillars. AI doesn’t replace these skills; it relies on them. If you’re thinking about how these trends impact your 2026 hiring strategy, or how to build sustainable talent pipelines. Here at Denholm, we are helping our clients navigate exactly this shift. Let's have a chat if this is something you are thinking about. I’d love to hear your perspective: 👉 Are you seeing fewer entry-level opportunities in your part of the tech industry? 👉 And do you think organisations are ready for the upskilling challenge ahead? As a recruiter, I’m hearing very different stories depending on the sector, so your insights will really help build a clearer picture.

A great portfolio won’t save a weak CV, and a great CV won’t save a weak portfolio. This week alone, we’ve seen some incredibly strong designers held back by avoidable basics: • CVs that list software but don’t explain how it’s been used on real projects • Portfolios with beautiful imagery, yet no context such as role, stage of project, or responsibility, • Applications that don’t align with the CV and portfolio (job titles, dates, or project scope don’t match). Your CV tells us what you’ve done. Your portfolio shows us how well you’ve done it. Studios expect both to work together, not compete. If you’re actively looking, it’s worth spending the extra hour tightening both. It genuinely makes the difference between “interesting” and “let’s interview”. If you want a 2nd opinion, feel free to reach out to me with both! ccolley@planningrecruitment.com #architecturejobs #interiordesignjobs #architectlife #designcareers #recruitmentinsight

In the Ruby and Rails ecosystem, technical analysts play vital roles in optimising application performance, interpreting user behaviour data, and guiding architectural decisions that keep Rails applications running efficiently at scale. These specialists combine deep understanding of Ruby performance characteristics with analytical skills to solve complex problems that standard metrics can't reveal. Ruby-specific technical analysis challenges: Rails applications generate enormous amounts of data - from ActiveRecord query patterns and memory allocation to user interaction flows and API response times. Technical analysts specialising in Ruby environments understand how to interpret this data meaningfully. Key analytical areas for Ruby professionals: 🔹 Database query optimisation using tools like Bullet gem and query analysis 🔹 Memory profiling with tools like derailed_benchmarks and memory_profiler 🔹 Performance bottleneck identification through New Relic, Scout, or custom instrumentation 🔹 User behaviour analysis through Rails application logs and analytics data 🔹 Code quality metrics using tools like SimpleCov, RuboCop, and Brakeman The Rails performance analyst skillset: Understanding Ruby's garbage collection patterns, Rails' ActiveRecord N+1 problems, and how different gems impact application performance requires both technical depth and analytical thinking. These analysts bridge the gap between development teams and business requirements. Tools of the trade: 🔹 Ruby profiling gems like stackprof and ruby-prof 🔹 APM solutions like Scout, New Relic, or DataDog 🔹 Database analysis tools and query optimisers 🔹 Custom Rails instrumentation and logging analysis 🔹 A/B testing frameworks and statistical analysis tools Career opportunities: Rails-focused technical analysts are increasingly valuable as applications scale. They help development teams make data-driven decisions about refactoring, infrastructure investments, and feature development priorities. Real-world impact: A skilled Ruby technical analyst might identify that a specific ActiveRecord association is causing performance degradation across the application, leading to architectural changes that improve response times by 40%. These insights directly impact user experience and business metrics. Professional development: Ruby technical analysts benefit from understanding both the technical aspects of Rails applications and the business contexts that drive performance requirements. This combination makes them valuable contributors to product and engineering decisions. What Ruby performance analysis tools have provided the most valuable insights in your applications? We're connecting with technical analysts who understand both Rails architecture and data-driven optimisation strategies. #InternationalTechnicalAnalystDay #RubyAnalysis #RailsPerformance #TechnicalAnalysis #RubyOnRails #TechRecruitment

We’re building a platform where founders can seamlessly access the best recruitment suppliers in the market — across People, Strategy, Processes, Finance, Technology, and Learning & Development (L&D) — all delivered in a non-intrusive, frictionless way. While on the surface RecWired may look like a WhatsApp group, behind the scenes we are creating a complete ecosystem designed to help recruitment businesses scale faster, smarter, and with the right partners at every stage. 🔹 What We’re Doing: ✅ Seamless Member Onboarding: New recruitment founders joining the WhatsApp groups will experience faster, frictionless onboarding, with smarter segmentation based on their agency size, goals, and interests. ✅ Personalized Engagement: By leveraging AI and automation, we’ll deliver tailored content, supplier introductions, and resources to founders — helping them discover the right opportunities and peer connections at the right time. ✅ Smarter Community Insights: We’re building deeper analytics to track member activity and discussions (without compromising privacy) — enabling RecWired to surface trending topics, identify emerging needs, and adapt the community experience dynamically. ✅ Dynamic Content Curation: We’ll use automation to curate the best discussions, insights, and knowledge shared within the groups — turning organic conversations into a living resource hub for all members. ✅ More Opportunities for Growth: New automated workflows will help founders seamlessly discover services, offers, and expertise — without being bombarded or overwhelmed — giving them exactly what they need, when they need it. ✅ Better Support for Founders at Every Stage: Whether you're a founder with 1-5 people or scaling past 50, RecWired’s upgraded platform will match resources, conversations, suppliers, and connections to where you are in your journey. 🔹 The Big Picture: We’re not just scaling RecWired in size — we're scaling it in value, personalization, and impact. Every recruitment founder deserves a smarter, faster, and more connected way to grow their business — and together with AutoMindz, we're making it happen. The future of RecWired is automation-powered, insight-driven, founder-first, and built for real recruitment business success. 🚀 #RecWired #AutoMindz #RecruitmentFounders #CommunityGrowth #Automation #AI #RecruitmentCommunity #FounderNetwork #ScalingSuccess #L&D #RecruitmentTechnology

Clutch control: I’ve been having so many conversations with clients lately who complain about the same market trend - the market feels "strange" right now. There are loads of projects being scoped, planned, and discussed. Clients are reaching out saying, “We're working on this project and we need consultants, we need a team, we’re kicking this off.” But then… the project stalls. It gets put on hold because funding isn’t signed off, planning isn’t ready, or priorities shift. From my perspective, it’s like watching a car with bad clutch control. There’s that jerk forward, pause, jerk forward, stall. There’s energy, there’s intent, but momentum just isn’t building... And I'm curious why that is? For consultants and contractors, this is frustrating because opportunities appear to be there, but the actual start date keeps moving. For clients, it creates uncertainty because talent is interested and available now, but won’t wait around forever. That’s why getting project planning and approvals aligned before going to market is becoming more important than ever. Otherwise, you risk losing the exact skills you’ll need when the project finally does start. My question is, are you seeing the same “stop-start” effect in your market? And how are you navigating this - waiting it out, or pushing to get things moving regardless? #JobMarketSA #Recruitment #Contracting #ProjectDelivery #SASkills

🎙️ 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 More Than A CV Podcast 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞! This week, I had the pleasure of speaking with Jacob Clark, Director of Engineering at Hyperact, about how we can rethink and reshape hiring in tech. We explored what it means to truly put people at the centre of software development, the role of diversity and inclusion in team performance, and how we can treat the hiring process like a product. Something to refine, iterate and improve continuously. ♻️ Jacob also shared his approach to: ✅ Creating better candidate experiences ✅ Using pair programming as part of the interview process ✅ Building more inclusive and human-centred hiring practices If you work in engineering leadership, talent acquisition, or just care about building better teams in tech, I’d love for you to give it a listen 👇 💻 Biometric Talent: https://lnkd.in/eVrQzPsX 🎧 Spotify → https://lnkd.in/e5Wtyut4 🍏 Apple Podcasts → https://lnkd.in/eY2DVk8P Big thanks to Jacob for such a thoughtful and forward-thinking conversation 🙌 #MoreThanACV #TechHiring #EngineeringLeadership #CandidateExperience #InclusiveHiring #SoftwareDevelopment #LeadershipInTech
