Eric Liaw shared thisI've had the privilege of knowing Mikey Shulman for years, including as a fellow board member at WHOOP , where I watched him operate up close. Smart, grounded, relentlessly focused on building things people love. It wasn’t a hard call when the opportunity came to partner with Mikey as a founder. Suno is doing something genuinely rare: normalizing music creation as a consumer behavior. Instagram made everyone a photographer. TikTok made everyone a vlogger. Suno is making everyone a musician. Users now spend an average of 55 minutes a day creating on the platform. It's #1 in the App Store's Music category in dozens of countries. Thrilled that IVP is partnering with Mikey and the entire Suno team on their $400M Series D. https://lnkd.in/ee8BVsN7AI Music Startup Suno Raises Capital at $5.4 Billion ValuationAI Music Startup Suno Raises Capital at $5.4 Billion Valuation

Eric Liaw shared thisWhen Shravan N. and I first met, it was instantly clear that he is a person of incisive intellect with a voracious appetite to learn new things, two key ingredients for success in venture. Since he joined us, Shravan has added to that repertoire and consistently connects with and serves entrepreneurs on their journey to building the household names of the future. While some might say a promotion is a reflection of work done in the past, if you know Shravan, he will immediately look forward to what else he can do to push things forward for the future and that is why all of us at IVP are thrilled to make this announcement. Ajay Vashee, Alex Lim, Cack Wilhelm, Somesh Dash, Steve Harrick, Tom Loverro and I can't wait to see the impact he will have for our portfolio companies, limited partners and firm in the years to come. Congratulations!Eric Liaw shared thisI'm honored to be IVP's newest General Partner. Venture exists because exceptional, ambitious, entirely irrational people feel compelled to break out of the traditional confines and put their lives on hold to build something special. Working in startups before IVP helped me build that appreciation and admiration, but it's an entirely different thing to see it firsthand from people like Tuhin/Amir/Phil, Aravind/Denis/Johnny, Eduardo, Rotem/Or, Grant/Jon/James, Ashutosh/Varun, and all the other founders we're fortunate to partner with. I pinch myself every week that I get to watch these brilliant people bring forward the future. To the past, present, and future of the IVP Partnership - thank you for welcoming me with open arms, helping me grow, and putting your trust in me to help continue this legacy. Eric Liaw shared thisIt’s been fantastic to be on the journey with WHOOP and Will Ahmed, Ed Baker, Emily Capodilupo, Michener Chandlee, Johan Liden, John Sullivan, Garrett Bastable, Parsa Saljoughian, Jason Lynch, Travis Lang, Dr Kristen Holmes PhD, Jonathan Jeffrey, Patrick Pash and the entire Whoop team! What a milestone on our way to add healthy years to the human population!Eric Liaw shared thisBREAKING: WHOOP RAISES $575M AT $10.1B VALUATION Today marks an important milestone for Whoop. We’ve raised $575M at a $10.1B valuation to accelerate our mission of unlocking human performance and healthspan globally. This round brings together an extraordinary group of investors that reflects both where we’ve come from and where we’re going. It was led by Collaborative Fund with participation from 2PointZero Group, Qatar Investment Authority, Mubadala, Abbott, Mayo Clinic, Macquarie Group, Glade Brook Capital Partners LLC, B-FLEXION, IVP, Foundry, Accomplice, Affinity Partners, Promus Ventures, and Bullhound Capital alongside a group of individual investors including Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, Rory McIlroy, Virgil van Dijk, and Mathieu van der Poel. This investor group and this moment reflect a powerful evolution underway for Whoop and the broader healthcare market. Whoop was born in performance - trusted by the best athletes in the world to train, recover, and compete at the highest level. That foundation remains core to who we are. You see that in the iconic athlete investors joining this round. But it also represents our push into broader health. In the past 12 months, Whoop has received medical clearances, launched blood testing, and created a platform that has saved lives. Abbott and Mayo Clinic - two of the most respected and influential institutions in global healthcare - are now investors in Whoop. These are organizations that have shaped modern medicine. Their decision to partner with us is a clear validation of where our technology is headed. Healthcare systems around the world are reactive. For too long, they have waited for people to get sick, then intervene. Chronic disease is rising and costs continue to climb. At Whoop, we believe the future looks fundamentally different. We are building the most powerful, personal, preventive health platform in the world - powered by continuous biometric data, advanced analytics, and AI to help people understand their bodies and improve their health in real time. I am grateful to our team, our members, and our partners for believing in this vision. I’ve been building this company for 14 years and I’ve never been more excited for the future. Onwards! #WHOOP #financing #growth #health #wearables #hiring

Eric Liaw shared thisMost of us don’t want people listening in our phone calls. That distaste is magnified and becomes a critical vulnerability in the arena of national security. Salt Typhoon put cellular security in the headlines. Cape, founded by ex-Green Beret John Doyle has been on a mission to secure our most sensitive communications before most people even understood the problem. IVP is proud to co-lead Cape's $100M Series C. https://lnkd.in/eSKWfmHA

Eric Liaw reposted thisEric Liaw reposted this8 years ago, I spent over $200k to exercise my startup options. I didn't have enough saved, so I took out a big loan. A few years later the company was acquired. Decent outcome. But after paying back the loan and taxes, my startup equity actually cost me money. The Wall Street Journal shared my story last week. That experience shaped how we built equity at Gamma. When we started the company, we made a vow: if Gamma succeeded, our team should share in that success. Without having to pay upfront. So we designed our equity program around it, including secondary opportunities with cashless exercise. As part of our Series B, we completed our first employee tender. $44M led by IVP. Our early team, anyone with vested options, was allowed to participate. Some have been with us for over five years. None of them had to take out a loan to share in what they helped build. P.S. Full WSJ piece in the first comment.

Eric Liaw liked thisEric Liaw liked thisBeing local by design means meeting customers and partners in every market, every week. Across our 35 sites, that adds up to about one Wonderful event every day. Last week alone, we had a 100-person reception for our Greater China launch, an AI Leaders dinner in South Africa, hosted a networking event with partners in Poland, an enterprise leaders dinner in Brazil, an exec breakfast in Australia, and took the main stage in South Korea. Proud of our teams on the ground.

Eric Liaw liked thisEric Liaw liked thisI got my first scoops when I was a freelance journalist in 2013, desperate for news outlets to take a chance on me. I sometimes broke market-moving news on my Twitter account! (Had several scoops about then public AOL). I was living in New York and barely making ends meet. People thought I was crazy because I turned down opportunities to go back to being a TV news producer, but that wasn’t what I wanted. I was determined to succeed as a reporter. Once I started scooping, it wasn’t long before the job offers were rolling in.

Eric Liaw liked thisEric Liaw liked thisToday, we’re introducing Meridian - the most premium WHOOP band we’ve ever brought to life. We’ve been working on Meridian for more than three years. From the beginning, our design team set out to create something that could resonate with the most discerning consumers. People who care deeply about performance, but have an equally high bar for design, materials, and fashion. Meridian is inspired by fine jewelry and crafted from refined stainless steel. Every detail was considered. The materials. The Milanese design. The finishes. The way it sits on the wrist. The way it catches the light. The result is something quite unique. We obsessed over making Meridian feel less like an accessory for a wearable and more like a piece you would choose to wear on its own. I’m incredibly proud of what our team has created. #whoop #meridian #fashion #jewelry

Eric Liaw liked thisEric Liaw liked thisToday is a special day for someone who has had an extraordinary impact on WHOOP and on me personally. Dr Kristen Holmes PhD's new book, Aligned: The Data-Driven Guide to Performance, Recovery, and Human Potential, is officially out today. I can’t recommend it enough. I met Kristen more than a decade ago, and it was clear then, as it is today, how extraordinary she is. Before WHOOP, she was an elite athlete and became the winningest coach in Ivy League field hockey history, leading Princeton to 12 Ivy League titles and 11 NCAA tournament appearances. Kristen joined WHOOP in our earliest days to help chart our path in sports. What started there quickly became much bigger. Over the years, she has shaped some of our most consequential science and research programs, earned her PhD in psychology, and today serves as our Global Head of Human Performance. Aligned brings together everything Kristen has spent her career studying - decades in high-performance environments, years of research, and insights from one of the largest physiological datasets in the world. Its central idea is powerful: peak performance isn't just about how hard you push. It's about how well your life, behaviors, and biology are aligned. A lot of people write books about ideas that have little to do with how they actually live their lives. What makes Kristen and Aligned unique is that this book is authentically her. She lives these principles every day. The ideas in Aligned aren’t just things Kristen has studied - they’re how she approaches her own performance, recovery, relationships, and life. I’m incredibly proud of Kristen and grateful for everything she has done for WHOOP. Order your copy in the comments below. Congratulations, Kristen! #whoop #booklaunch #data #science

Eric Liaw liked thisI’m excited to share that I have joined Will Ahmed and the incredible team at WHOOP as Chief Commercial Officer. I’ve had the privilege of spending my career building brands that create a deep emotional and cultural connection with consumers, in a way that is transcendent of their category. WHOOP is one of those rare, generational brands – one that is shaping the future, and the way we live in it. WHOOP represents an IDEA: that we have the power to unlock our potential, that we can always be growing, and that we can decide to become the very best version of ourselves. Whether you are an elite athlete working to perform at your best, an 80-year-old managing AFib, or a young mom aspiring to live her fullest life, that potential is … limitless. At the heart of the very best brands in the world are PEOPLE – the community we serve, the company we build, and the team that builds it. From the moment I met Will, I knew I wanted to be a part of what he was building – and I could not be more honored to join this exceptional team that is creating the future. Joining WHOOP is also a homecoming of sorts, as it brings me back (professionally) to my hometown of Boston, overlooking none other than Fenway Park. At the forefront of the AI ecosystem, WHOOP is a leader in the next generation of economic development for Massachusetts – and beyond. I feel lucky to be part of it all – and so grateful for the journey that brought me here, and all those who have been a part of it. The future is bright ✨ https://lnkd.in/ePvdR6-Q

A great result for Callosum and yet another strong signal from UK deep tech. Congratulations to Danyal Akarca, Jascha Achterberg and the entire team, and especially Jason Pontin Matt Ocko James Hardiman Stephen Rodriguez and the DCVC team for seeing the opportunity and having conviction early in the thesis. For me the really interesting idea here is bigger than cheaper inference. As agentic AI drives an explosion in model calls, the strategic layer may shift from owning the “best” model or chip to deciding which combination of models and silicon should run each task. An independent orchestration layer could lower costs while creating more competition across the entire AI stack. That thesis is already translating into partnerships across the compute stack, including Cerebras, Intel, NVIDIA, d-Matrix Amazon Web Services (AWS) reinforcing the opportunity for an independent layer that can orchestrate across models, chips and infrastructure. There’s also a great UK story here too: University of Cambridge science, early Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) and Sovereign AI Kanishka Narayan MP support and now major global capital and partnerships - a great example of UK science and public risk capital helping create companies that global capital and strategic partners increasingly want to scale. And Callosum isn’t an isolated example. There’s a growing pipeline of UK companies tackling similarly hard problems across AI, compute, defence and deep tech. Some worth watching will be at #SFTechWeek this October TECH WEEK by a16z Andreessen Horowitz which has become an exceptional meeting point for ambitious founders, ideas and capital.
