Will Ahmed is the Founder and CEO of WHOOP, which has developed next generation wearable technology for optimizing human performance and health. WHOOP has raised more than $900 million from top investors and is valued at $10.1 billion. Ahmed has recruited an active advisory board that consists of some of the world’s most notable cardiologists, technologists, marketers, and designers. Ahmed is a member of the Board of Fellows of Harvard Medical School, where he provides counsel to the Dean and faculty on topics related to the strength and health of the institution. Ahmed was named to the 2021 Sports Business Journal 40 under 40 list as well as 2020 Fortune 40 Under 40 Healthcare list and previously named to Forbes 30 Under 30 and Boston Business Journal’s 40 Under 40. Ahmed founded WHOOP as a student at Harvard, where he captained the Men’s Varsity Squash Team and graduated with an A.B. in government.

From the beginning, our design team set out to create something that could resonate with the most discerning consumers. People who care deeply about performance, but have an equally high bar for design, materials, and fashion. Meridian is inspired by fine jewelry and crafted from refined stainless steel. Every detail was considered. The materials. The Milanese design. The finishes. The way it sits on the wrist. The way it catches the light. The result is something quite unique. We obsessed over making Meridian feel less like an accessory for a wearable and more like a piece you would choose to wear on its own. Dr Kristen Holmes PhD's new book, Aligned: The Data-Driven Guide to Performance, Recovery, and Human Potential, is officially out today. I can’t recommend it enough. I met Kristen more than a decade ago, and it was clear then, as it is today, how extraordinary she is. Before WHOOP, she was an elite athlete and became the winningest coach in Ivy League field hockey history, leading Princeton to 12 Ivy League titles and 11 NCAA tournament appearances. Kristen joined WHOOP in our earliest days to help chart our path in sports. What started there quickly became much bigger. Over the years, she has shaped some of our most consequential science and research programs, earned her PhD in psychology, and today serves as our Global Head of Human Performance. Aligned brings together everything Kristen has spent her career studying - decades in high-performance environments, years of research, and insights from one of the largest physiological datasets in the world. Its central idea is powerful: peak performance isn't just about how hard you push. It's about how well your life, behaviors, and biology are aligned. A lot of people write books about ideas that have little to do with how they actually live their lives. What makes Kristen and Aligned unique is that this book is authentically her. Original Medicare beneficiaries with qualifying conditions can now receive a 12-month WHOOP membership, a blood pressure cuff, personalized guidance, and ongoing clinical support at no out-of-pocket cost. People assume older adults won’t use new technology. The data tells a different story. 91% of our members 65+ who use WHOOP in a given month open the app every day. Medicare spending is out of control. The country spent $1.2 trillion last year, and the CBO expects that to hit $2 trillion within a decade, driven by chronic conditions. We have to fix this. Will Ahmed posted thisSince I’ve been asked a lot about competition this year, here are a few principles I’ve come to believe about competition: 1) You’re more likely to win or lose because of your own company’s actions than those of your competition. This is particularly true of startups but I’ve found surprisingly true at scale as well. 2) Being copied isn’t always inspiring. But it usually means you’re leading. Don’t waste energy looking over your shoulder. Lead, don’t follow. 3) There’s more to learn from customers than competitors. Consumer markets are hard, but they’re honest. Sales, engagement, and retention are the only scoreboard that matters. 4) There’s a difference between obsessing over competitors and harnessing a deeply competitive spirit. The former distracts you from your true intuition. The latter gives you the extra motivation to do your best work. 5) Creating a market is valuable. Continuing to lead after others copy you is even more valuable. You’re innovative and durable. 6) Remember big, growing markets attract competition. Competition validates the opportunity. Will Ahmed shared thisI generally have an aversion to meetings with lots of people. I especially have an aversion to meetings where people sit through PowerPoint presentations and status updates. If information can be shared in a document, it should be. The main reason to bring people together should be for discussion. Last week we hosted a Brand leadership offsite with key cross-functional partners from across WHOOP. When I looked around the room, five out of seven of us had not been at the company just a year earlier. All the more reason to get together, debate and align. We charted the strongest path forward for our brand. The results are very exciting. As WHOOP grows, creating space for these conversations becomes important. But only if these meetings can actually be discussions that draw out genuine debate and ultimately decisions. #whoop #leadership #strategy #teamwork

That’s why Dr. Ami Bhatt, MD is joining WHOOP as our Chief Medical Officer. Ami has spent her career helping shape the future of digital health, bringing together medicine, technology, and AI to improve how people understand and manage their health. She is a board-certified cardiologist and most recently served as Chair of the FDA's Digital Health Advisory Committee. She also previously was the Chief Innovation Officer of the American College of Cardiology and Director of Outpatient/Telecardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
