After weeks of interviewing for our own team, I’ve seen a growing number of candidates presenting AI-generated answers, they couldn't explain or talk about when asked. 😬 I know it won't stop people from using AI tools, but I hope it reminds candidates that if you rely on it too heavily, it can hurt you more than help you. A reasonable request? Or too much for an employer to ask in 2025?

Turns me into a 150 words a minute typist If you haven't heard of it, you should look into it. BUT, more importantly, I'm going down to #BrightonSEO at the end of April. I'm really excited to reconnect with the search community. This is my 27th year in the industry, bonkers. #BrightonSEO is one of the best shows you can go to for knowledge and networking. Plenty of pubs, kebab shops, cocktail bars. #bdwjb The combination of paid search, paid social and SEO all blended together. First time speakers as well as old hands. Will be weird to not get an ice cream from the ice cream seller who has retired. But one day that will be all of us. It's also the perfect excuse to catch up with old friends, including Dixon Jones from inLinks, who will be there exhibiting and talking about all that is new. It's always exciting to catch up with the Inlinks team (whichever one of their solutions they are promoting) If you're going to be at #BrightonSEO, I'd love to meet up and have a beer at some point. Here’s why 👇 🤼 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Many US markets are far less agency-heavy than the UK. Less noise, fewer “preferred supplier lists,” and more space to actually build relationships 🤑 𝐌𝐔𝐂𝐇 𝐁𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐬 Higher salaries = higher fee values. Simple maths. Cold calling, BD, and full-desk ownership translate incredibly well to the US market. 🕒 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐞 & 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 Many firms now allow UK-based recruiters to work US markets remotely, or relocate with serious support once they prove themselves. 🏢 𝐁𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬 US businesses scale quickly and hire in volume. Most recruitment agencies think their use of technology gives them a significant advantage. And it’s all about to cost them. There is this emerging idea within our industry that if you have better technology, you have a better business. In my opinion this is not true. Give it 12 months, and your competitors will have the same technology. The same AI, the same automation. But one thing that won’t equalise is your people. The recruiter who can sit down with a CFO and discuss the true implications of a hiring decision. The consultant that your client trusts not just because of their network, but because of their ability to offer opinion. The leader that can deliver performance through a downturn. This takes years to develop, and most agencies are not investing enough time or money into their people. They’re using their technology to simply do more of the same thing, faster. I don't believe this is how you win but how you delay your decline. To win, you need to use your technology to take away all the noise and focus on what really matters. Judgment, insight, building trust. What is your business better at than your competitors in a way that technology can't replicate?
