Balloon Licence

The philosophy in plain English

Everyone has the right to manufacture, sell, and distribute Balloon boards unchanged, however populated, and for any price (and there are several obvious levels of population that make sense, either as standalone boards or as components to be plugged in to a motherboard). Everyone has the right to distribute the schematics unchanged in PDF form, and the manufacturing files (Gerbers, drill info, pick-and-place info, BOMs; everything needed to manufacture the boards)

If Balloon does not meet your specific requirements, then please build a motherboard for it. Design files for template motherboards are available as Protel (and maybe other) sources. If you'd like to suggest changes or improvements for future versions, please do so via the mailing list, which is where new editions get thrashed out.

The Protel design of this board is not published, and remains copyright © Steve Wiseman, all right's reserved. This is to avoid the proliferation of dozens of slightly-different Balloon-a-like boards, which would destroy the whole concept of Balloon being a standard, low cost, easily available, easily manufacturable, board for the masses.

DEFINITIONS:

HARDWARE INFORMATION

shall mean the schematics in Adobe (pdf) or other format not being Protel format, with PLD logic equations and binaries, Bills of Materials, manufacturing and assembly information including Gerber PCB description files, documentation, web site images and any other information included. These are the subject of the LICENCE below and are sufficient to understand, manufacture, assemble, test and use the circuit boards.

The HARDWARE INFORMATION may be copied, redistributed, and modified. Authors credits must be preserved. A copy of this licence must be provided with any redistribution. The responsibility of the authors is limited thus:-
