The TVS Apache RTR 180 is one of the most well-rounded motorcycles at its price point. It serves as a sportier alternative compared to other regular commuter motorcycles present in the two-wheeler market. It strikes a nearly-perfect combination of performance, style, handling, and mileage, which continues to appeal to Indian buyers, especially younger riders. First launched in 2009, the Apache RTR 180 has been updated multiple times over the years, with the most comprehensive update arriving in 2020, when it was upgraded to meet BS6 norms and gained riding modes (Sport, Urban, Rain), along with several subtle changes.

The Apache RTR 180 new model is powered by a 177.4cc, 4-stroke, oil-cooled engine. In Sport mode, this TVS bike generates 17.13PS of power at 9000rpm and 15.5Nm of peak torque at 7000rpm. Meanwhile, in Urban and Rain modes, power and torque drop to 13.87PS at 8250 rpm and 14.2Nm at 6000rpm, respectively, to ensure better control and efficiency in different riding conditions.

The Apache RTR 180 top speed is 113kph in the Sport mode, while it is limited to 102kph in Urban and Rain modes. Despite its performance-oriented setup, the bike delivers decent fuel efficiency. As per ARAI, the Apache RTR 180 mileage is around 45kpl. But, as reported by several owners, the TVS Apache RTR 180 fuel economy falls between 40kpl and 44kpl, depending on riding habits and weather conditions.

In terms of features, the Apache RTR 180 BS6 is equipped with three ride modes, an LED headlamp with AHO, a new digital speedometer with Bluetooth connectivity, and Glide Through Technology, which enables low-speed movement without throttle input. Currently, the TVS Apache RTR 180 is available in 2 variants: RM Disc BT (₹1.26 lakh) and Anniversary Edition (₹1.28 lakh), ex-showroom, and rivals other motorcycles such as the Suzuki Gixxer, and Pulsar 220F.

A
Asked by: Ameyon Oct 29, 2025

I’ve been thinking about buying the V-Strom 250 SX for the longest time, and now that I’m finally about to get it, TVS drops the RTX 300. So, I’m now confused: should I wait for the RTX 300, or just get the V-Strom 250 SX right away?

The TVS Apache RTX 300 offers more features, is more powerful, and is a more modern motorcycle when compared to the Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX. Considering it is a brand-new product, there could be a few teething issues at the start, so that is something to keep in mind. You can wait for the RTX 300, but make sure to take a test ride before making up your mind.
