Change can be tricky. It’s an inevitable process of life, sometimes sought after, other times under protest. In the case of Xikar’s Allume lighter series, the company embraced the idea, not merely tweaking the line of lighters but giving them a complete overhaul. Recent upgrades to the Allume series bring a new design, more color options, a lower price tag and, according to the company, better performance.

Xikar’s Allume series is composed of three lighters, all sorted by the number of jet flames they produce. The original lineup was named: Allume Single Jet Torch Lighter, Allume Double Jet Torch Lighter and Allume Triple Jet Torch Lighter. As part of the revamping process, Xikar has simplified the names, albeit still basing them off of the number of jet flames: Allume 1, Allume 2 and Allume 3.

For the new series, the company not only used different molds for the manufacturing process, but also reworked the internal components, adding additional vents that the company says creates better airflow internally and therefore more reliable flames. For Allume 2 and 3, the flame direction has also been reconfigured. With the previous models, the multiple flames fired straight up, but with the new series the flames are angled to come to a point, which the company says will help with lighting accuracy.

Each model comes in seven colors: black, black and rose, gunmetal, blue, red, gold and green and gold.

As for the original Allume series, the company says those lighters are being retired.

Xikar classifies the Allume 3 model as a “table lighter,” measuring 2.3 inches wide, 0.9 inches long and 3.8 inches tall. As the name suggests, it has three jet flames. The suggested retail price of the new model is $99.99.

The Allume 2 ($69.99) is positioned as the “ideal pocket lighter.” It measures 1.8 inches wide, 0.7 inches long and 2.9 inches tall. It’s powered by dual jet flames that converge in the center.

Xikar’s Allume 1 ($59.99) is a single jet flame lighter that the company says is “meant for travel and convenience.” The dimensions are 1.3 inches wide, 0.5 inches long and 2.3 inches tall.

The new Allume series was announced earlier this year at the PCA trade show. Quality Importers Trading Co., which owns and distributes Xikar products, has shipped the Allume 2 and 3 models, and both products are available now on the Xikar website. Allume 1 is slated to ship by the end of this month, upon which it will also be available for purchase on the company’s website.
