About Us
Eater is a digital media brand dedicated to all things food and dining. In a world full of near-endless food options, Eater is the expert voice that cuts through the noise, spotlights under-the-radar destinations, and gives you the down-low on the places to go right now. Eater covers the dining world across an iOS app with thousands of restaurant recommendations, a national website covering food and dining culture, nearly two dozen city sites tracking local dining scenes across hundreds of maps and dining reports; a robust YouTube channel featuring documentary-style video about the inner workings of restaurants; and a variety of social channels and newsletters, all powered by a diverse team of writers, editors, producers, and contributors.
Who we are
The force behind Eater is a network of expert voices spread across the U.S. and the globe, including local talents known for their deep knowledge of a specific city to national trend experts. The Eater team is currently led by editor-in-chief Stephanie Wu and publisher Jill Dehnert.
Founded in 2005, Eater was acquired by Vox Media in 2013, and since then, the brand has expanded to include the Gastropod podcast, a subscription wine club, and multiple TV series including No Passport Required on PBS and Hulu’s Eater’s Guide to the World. More recently, the food-focused brand joined forces with Punch, a companion publication dedicated to drinks and drinking culture, when it was acquired by Vox Media in 2021, and travel site Thrillist in 2022. Eater has an ongoing deal with book publisher Abrams to publish cookbooks and travel guides, including its first-ever cookbook and guides to Los Angeles, New York City, Paris, and Mexico City. In 2024, Eater launched the Eater app for iOS, bringing together every Eater-recommended restaurant from 10,000+ Eater maps in over 100 cities worldwide, all in one app.
Over 20 years, Eater has earned millions of followers and been repeatedly recognized for its achievements in food journalism and media, winning 13 James Beard Awards, six American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) Awards, five New York Emmys, and more than a dozen Association of Food Journalists Awards to date.
