Aw, Jesus H. Christ on an iron boat, somebody woke him up on Thursday afternoon. And we got this. From NPR:

President Trump is escalating his ongoing dispute with Canada over tariffs with a new executive order renaming Lake Ontario, which sits between New York and Canada, to Lake America. The order, which Trump signed Thursday, directs the federal government to rename the smallest of the great lakes "effective immediately." However, the order also outlines administrative steps that must occur first. He made a similar move last year renaming the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America. "We have a gulf, and we have a lake, now all we need is an ocean," Trump told reporters at the Oval Office signing.

And the reporters laughed and laughed, and then they called the EMS to take this crazy person away for observation.

No, that didn't happen.

But the rest of it did.

Lake Ontario has been Lake Ontario since before there was an America, and before there was a United States thereof, and before there was a Canada. The name comes down from the Wendat people, one of the more prominent indigenous confederacies in and around the Great Lakes. (Half of the Wendat people were wiped out in the 1600s by the smallpox brought over by the first batch of Europeans.) They also were defeated and dispersed after a war with the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. The lake’s name had been fine with the French, with the British, and, ultimately, with the Americans and the Canadians. Until the Americans lost their minds and elected an ambulatory bag of vengeance and sin.

Going forward, do not patronize any news operation that uses the name. Heap upon them scorn and defiance. Read them for the sycophantic filth that they are. Buy all your maps from Canada. Rand McNally this stupid into the dustbin of history.
