The Haryana Police Housing Corporation Limited (HPHCL) has floated a tender for the installation of around 100 cameras to strengthen security, improve road safety and assist in crime detection. The additional surveillance cameras will be installed at 24 key locations across Panchkula.
A senior official said the tender is likely to be allotted next month, after which the installation work is expected to be completed within three months.
The project covers Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra and Yamuna Nagar and has an estimated cost of ₹84.7 lakh. Of this, around ₹20 lakh has been earmarked for Panchkula.
At present, 473 surveillance cameras have already been installed at various locations in the city. However, some of these cameras are reportedly non-functional. Deputy commissioner Satpal Sharma had recently directed the municipal corporation to ensure their repair and restoration.
The expansion of the surveillance network is expected to help police prevent and detect crime, monitor suspicious activities and track vehicles involved in offences. CCTV footage can also assist in identifying suspects and provide crucial evidence during criminal investigations.
