Delhi NCR weather highlights: Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday said waterlogging remains a major issue for the government and that authorities are working systematically to address it. Haryana minister Shruti Choudhary, responding to waterlogging in Gurugram after heavy rainfall, said the issue is long-term and will take time to address. Delhi-NCR face heavy showers for the 2nd day
The national capital witnessed another spell of heavy rain on Tuesday. The downpour led to waterlogging in several parts of Delhi, while traffic movement was affected on key roads. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of more rain and thunderstorms during the day.
Heavy rain caused waterlogging across Delhi, including Ashoka Road, Raisina Road, RML Hospital, Parliament Street, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place, AIIMS, Supreme Court, ITO, Moti Bagh, Kamla Nagar and Karol Bagh.
IMD issues rain alert
According to the latest IMD update, moderate rain is expected at many places across Delhi, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely.
A red alert covered all 11 districts of the national capital till 9:45 am -- Central Delhi, East Delhi, New Delhi, North Delhi, North East Delhi, North West Delhi, Shahdara, South Delhi, South East Delhi, South West Delhi and West Delhi. The IMD has also warned of moderate rain at many places, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations.
The weather conditions come a day after intense showers brought several parts of Delhi-NCR to a standstill.
Heavy rain on Monday
Gurugram has been particularly affected, with severe waterlogging and traffic congestion. The administration advised corporate offices, government and private schools and other institutions to allow work from home on Tuesday, while schools were advised to shift to online classes.

Delhi has also recorded above-normal rainfall at several observatories. Till August 24, Safdarjung recorded 246.2 mm against the normal 191.1 mm, an excess of 29%, while Palam recorded 227.2 mm, 28% above normal.
While Delhi is under a red alert, the IMD's subdivision-level warning separately lists Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi under a heavy-rain warning for August 25. More rain, thunderstorms and lightning are expected, raising the possibility of further waterlogging, traffic disruption and transport delays across the region.

Delhi NCR weather LIVE: Congress General Secretary and MP Randeep Singh Surjewala criticised the BJP-led Haryana government and CM Nayab Singh Saini over waterlogging and traffic disruptions in Gurugram.
On X, Surjewala said, “Gurgaon infra has 'collapsed'! Waterlogged & Jammed Roads! Advisory is to 'work from home'! Nayab Saini & BJP Govt's Delivery.”
He alleged, “School buses stranded, roads & streets flooded, people getting electrocuted, govt & administration missing, chaos prevails, fend for urself, and ₹1,400 cr spent, zero result! Calling it 'Millennium City Gurugram!'”

Delhi NCR weather LIVE: IMD scientist Dr Akhil Srivastava said Delhi received heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, with up to 10 cm recorded in some areas.
“There is a possibility of further decrease in this over the next two days, and only light rain is expected in Delhi,” he said. On the wider weather situation, Srivastava said the low-pressure area that formed over northwest Bengal on August 23 is currently over Jharkhand and adjoining areas, bringing the possibility of good rainfall over east-central India.
“An 'Orange Alert' for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, and east Uttar Pradesh,” he said, adding that a similar alert has been issued for Kerala.
Heavy rain is also expected in parts of eastern India, while warnings have been issued for parts of coastal Karnataka, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. No special heavy-rain warning has been issued for hilly areas, though thunderstorms are possible in Uttarakhand.
