The Gore London – Starhotels Collezione

Built in 1892 as a serviced residence for visitors to Prince Albert’s Great Exhibition in Hyde Park, The Gore London of today offers a unique insight into Victorian England. Brimming over with old world charm, this ever-so English boutique hotel is filled with a treasure trove of period details and exudes the intimate vibe of a London members’ club while delivering grand-hotel-good service.

Spread across five floors, The Gore’s 50 bedrooms and suites are a lesson in lavish sophistication, individually furnished in vivid colours with heavy drapes framing the windows and luxury English linens dressing the beds. All the while, discreetly placed technology propels them into the 21st century. Many consider the three-room Tudor Suite – complete with mahogany four-poster bed, stained-glass windows, minstrels’ gallery and grand Portland stone fireplace – one of the most unique accommodations in the capital. Another showstopping room is the theatrical Judy Garland Suite, whose namesake stayed here for a length of time while performing nearby. The gilded bed encased by red velvet curtains was reportedly shipped in from Hollywood and a replica pair of her legendary ruby slippers are on display. (Ask about the Judy Garland Experience.)

As you would expect, The Gore’s 190 Queen’s Gate restaurant is an English affair celebrating fresh and seasonal local produce cooked simply and elegantly by former National Chef of the Year, Head Chef Frederick Forster. In addition, the iconic Bar 190 serves an all-day dining menu as well as classic cocktails and signature creations. A quintessential afternoon tea with a modern twist, crafted from more of that exceptional seasonal produce, is also available in the regal library.

A Note From The Local Expert…

The Gore London has hosted many extravagant parties and feasts over the years; one of which was the launch party of The Rolling Stones’ Beggars Banquet album in 1968. Bar 190 remains a go-to for rock royalty and with the Royal Albert Hall just around the corner, stars of the stage and screen often drop in for a drink.

A lift connects the ground floor to the fourth floor, however the rooms on the fifth floor do not have lift access. Some rooms also have a few steps leading to the bathroom.
