Central Manchester’s cool cat with an industrial edginess and designer refinement

This red brick example of Victorian excellence has resided in the centre of Manchester since 1890; first as the headquarters for The Refuge Assurance Company and now as the cool 270-bedroom Kimpton Clocktower Hotel.

The building’s Victorian bones – shiny tiled columns, soaring ceilings, huge windows – set an industrial-chic scene for the vintage-cool furnishings that combine art-deco elegance with an on-trend vibe. Every detail has been carefully considered from the plush textiles and pops of bold colour to the modern artwork hanging on the walls.

In fact, art and culture are part of the hotel’s DNA, with all the city’s art galleries and music arenas close by. Many stay at Kimpton Clocktower Hotel for its convenient proximity to Oxford Road and Piccadilly Railway Stations, as well as Canal Street’s bars, the arts venue HOME, and football and cricket stadiums whilst others gather here for a meeting, party, or wedding. After all, the ballroom is the largest in the northwest of England and can accommodate up to 700 guests.

There are also 17 meeting rooms on-site, and various locations available for private hire include the light-filled Winter Garden dining area where cocktails and an impressive selection of gins are served beneath the leafy embrace of trees. Each day of the week from lunchtime till late, The Refuge Dining Room and its adjoining Refuge Bar serve up and pour out an eclectic menu of small dishes, sharing platters, cocktails, wines, and beers. Sundays are all about the traditional roast.

NB this is a pet-friendly hotel welcoming furry, feathery, and scaly friends.

A Note From The Local Expert…

Don’t miss the daily “social hour” between 5pm and 6pm when complimentary wine and beer, plus cupcakes for the children, are served.
