Welcome to the charming world of Luisa Longo in Rome’s bohemian Trastevere

Buonanotte Garibaldi could be Rome’s best kept secret.

Nestled behind ivy-clad walls in arty Trastevere – all narrow cobbled streets and medieval houses – this gorgeous guest house is the home and studio of artist Luisa Longo. Luisa’s graceful fabrics pretty-up the walls and furniture throughout and if you like what you see, Luisa can personalise pieces of her artwork for you. These include paintings on silk and organza using multiple techniques.

This relaxing and peaceful urban oasis in the heart of Rome is built around a fragrant courtyard strewn with orange and palm trees. Essentially, it’s a boho-luxe fantasy comprising just three boutique guest rooms. Therefore, Buonanotte Garibaldi is a perfect home-from-home for a family get together or gathering place with friends. Each room is sprinkled with 19th and 20th-century antiques while drapes, throws and upholstery carrying Longo’s distinctive artworks add character and verve.

The first-floor Rome Room with super king-size bed combines a warm sunset palette with a huge private terrace overlooking the courtyard and Gianicolo Hill beyond (talk about romantic). Luxurious bathrooms and big, sink-into beds are the standout features of the Chocolate Room – also with super king-size bed – and king-sized Tinto Room; both of which open onto the sun-drenched communal patio.

Days begin in fine style with a breakfast of home-made pastries, tarts and jams served in the elegant white dining room while the shaded courtyard is a welcome respite from the blazing afternoon sun.

A Note From The Local Expert…

Buonanotte Garibaldi isn’t just an enchanting place to stay in Rome but also owner Luisa Longo’s art studio. Luisa has been painting on organza for more than 40 years and her multiples home collection (printed table cloths, placemats etc) is now in production and available for guests to purchase at a special price. Guests often find themselves seeking out Luisa’s website and varied works-of-art long after their departure.

In a recent article, The Best Solo Holiday Destinations, Editor Laura Kerry highlights Rome as a perfect destination for single travellers, and in turn Buonanotte Garibaldi:

“Rome is the perfect induction into solo travel. There are so many things to do and see in the capital where it’s difficult to feel lonely… it’s impossible to feel self conscious in Rome and Romans are always ready to talk! Thanks to the easy public transport system, the city is nice and simple to get around too.”
