A little known paradise between the Caribbean Sea and mountains of Colombia

Born from love for the natural beauty of this north-eastern Colombian stretch of Caribbean coast, Carlos Samper and Martha Herrera’s original two-cabin bed and breakfast has been transformed by their daughter, Paula, into the 11-beachfront cabin, 10-bedroom hillside sanctum with spa and restaurant it is today.

Uniquely positioned to enjoy the sea’s turquoise waters and dramatic landscape of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, everything about Aité has been designed to connect guests to nature, enhance their wellbeing and provide unique cultural experiences such as visiting local indigenous communities. All the while, sustainable practises ensure limited impact to the environment thanks to solar panels, a natural wastewater treatment plant, organic garden, zero-noise policy and use of biodegradable products.

Guests enjoy exclusive access to 200 metres of private Palomino beachfront fringed by palm trees and tropical vegetation that also encase Aité’s rooms and casitas. Each one has been thoughtfully designed to blend comfort with environmental sensitivity and showcase the architecture and interior design of the region’s indigenous cultures using traditional colours, textures and materials whenever possible. Many are secluded by the greenery; others directly face the Caribbean Sea.

All-day Siki Bar & Restaurant has an uninterrupted view of the waves, with its bar serving cocktails to barefoot customers sitting on high stools and novel swinging seats, while the two-storey restaurant beneath a thatched roof prepares fresh Caribbean flavours from breakfast to dinner.

Surfing lessons and horseback riding along the beach can easily be arranged, in addition to yoga sessions, hikes in the Sierra Nevada foothills, tubing on nearby rivers, birdwatching and cacao ceremonies.

A Note From The Local Expert…

Aité Eco Resort’s commitment to the local community is a testament to the caring, mindful way it operates. By supporting the Fútbol con Corazón foundation and a performing arts programme at the local school, as well as organising trips to the indigenous and rural communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, lives are directly being altered for the better. If that wasn’t enough, a portion of the resort’s profits is donated to The Propalomino Foundation, which aims to improve local children’s lives through education and social wellbeing.
