Happy Birthday to our Founder Ava DuVernay, the filmmaker, storyteller and visionary who helped to reshape what independent cinema looks like. From her early days falling in love with the art of filmmaking to directing groundbreaking work that centers truth, justice and humanity, Ava has never stopped pushing the industry toward something better. She didn’t ask for a seat at the table; she built her own and then made sure the table had room for all of us. ARRAY exists because Ava believed independent voices deserved distribution, resources and community. Every film we release, artist we support and conversation we spark carries her vision forward. Today, we celebrate the director, the founder, the mentor and the friend who is Ava DuVernay. Thank you for showing us what’s possible when you lead with courage and conviction. Here’s to another year of storytelling that moves culture forward.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS. On December 4, Ava DuVernay’s new documentary, 14TH premieres globally on Netflix following a theatrical run beginning November 27 in select U.S. and U.K. theaters. It all starts October 9, when the film closes out the New York Film Festival. A follow-up to 13TH, this new film turns to the 14th Amendment, written in the wreckage of the Civil War to close the door on the hierarchy of human worth. Instead, it became a permanent argument. More than 50 voices, historians, lawyers, scholars, politicians, sat down with DuVernay to ask the question this country still hasn't answered: who gets to belong? 14TH. In theaters November 27, on Netflix December 4. #ARRAY #14TH

The story of play is the story of all of us, from the places that shape where we call home to the ways embracing joy can become an act of activism. This idea fueled the launch of our summer storytelling series, ARRAY @ Play, curated to spark our sense of play through games and film. On July 25: Filmmaker Jessa Williams transported our screen to the shoreline for an incredible surfer's tale about the power of presence. We leaned into new ways of dreaming together through a collective world building game led by the artist Mims. Neighbors Skate Shop owners Cleon and Tre welcomed us into their neighborhood through a visual love letter. Change begins with the stories we share and the communities we choose to share with.
