  • Big news today: we're teaming up with director Jacob Chase on his next horror film, "Sleepover." Chase wrote the script with Bryce McGuire ("Night Swim"), and Universal will release it on October 8, 2027. Last Friday we opened Chase's "Insidious: Out of the Further," the newest chapter in the franchise, and it's now holding the highest Rotten Tomatoes audience score of any Insidious film to date. What's the horror film that ruined sleep for you?

  • Horror's New Wave: 15 Years of Blumhouse, our book with Dave Schilling, is an official finalist for the 2026 World Fantasy Award in the Special Award, Professional category. The World Fantasy Awards are one of the three most prestigious honors in speculative fiction. They've been given every year since 1975 and are decided by a jury. Our marketing team is small but mighty, so a juried nod like this one means a lot. Our movies reach a lot of you, and they show up in your lives in ways we don't take for granted. This book was our attempt to get fifteen years of that down on the page. Thank you to everyone who supported it, and to the village of filmmakers, actors, and friends who gave their time to help make it good. If you've read it, what stuck with you? Some of the best mornings aren't on set. This year our team spent Volunteer Day at Muir Ranch, the student-run farm at John Muir High School in Pasadena, partnering with L.A. Works to support families affected by the 2025 Altadena fires. Mulching, weeding, seed-starting, building planters. A lot of hands, one very good cause. What's a cause your team keeps showing up for?

⚠️ Impersonation alert ⚠️ It has come to our attention that someone is impersonating Melissa Aouate, our Head of TV for Blumhouse, and contacting authors about acquisitions. All legitimate outreach from our team comes from a @blumhouse.com email address — never Gmail, Yahoo, or other free accounts. We also never request fees, payments, or sensitive personal/financial information as part of an acquisition conversation. If you've received a suspicious message, don't respond or click any links. Thank you to the authors who flagged this.

Paul Feig has range: "Bridesmaids," "Spy," "A Simple Favor," "The Housemaid," which grossed over $400 million globally on a $35 million budget. Now he's attached to "Detention," for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, a spec script from Daniel Gold about grown classmates who reconnect and uncover a disturbing secret. Feig and Laura Fischer produce via Pretty Dangerous, joined by Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Cameron Fuller; and Jason Blum. What's your favorite Paul Feig movie?

"Some of my favorite movies that really made me fall in love with cinema, for the most part, I saw on my TV playing on different channels, or on a DVD or VHS. My experience of those films was no less from watching it at home." — director Kate Dolan, in an exclusive interview with EW. SOULM8TE hits digital Aug. 1. What's a movie that hit just as hard for you at home as it would have in theaters?

The writer behind "It," "Annabelle," and "The Nun" is stepping into Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. Gary Dauberman is writing the next "Five Nights at Freddy's" film, and few screenwriters have helped shape modern horror franchises the way he has. Dauberman has spent a decade building exactly that kind of connective tissue across some of the genre's biggest titles. What do you think makes a horror franchise worth returning to?

Two films from one company, Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, at the top of the box office, at the same time. "Obsession" is in theaters and "Backrooms" is right alongside it, and the last few weeks have been some of the most fun we have had around here in a while. Since October 2025, Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, has had a very good horror stretch with: "The Conjuring: Last Rites," "Black Phone 2," "Five Nights at Freddy's 2," "Lee Cronin's The Mummy," "Obsession," and "Backrooms." Grateful for every person who made it happen.
