We had an amazing time at the 2026 ALPFA Inc - Association of Latino Professionals For America Convention — from hosting an info session for students and attending seminars to meeting and interviewing candidates at our expo booth. It was an inspiring few days of connection, learning, and opportunity. BDO’s Allie Penrose and Manny Rodriguez led a packed presentation on financial literacy to nearly 100 students! Our professionals also managed to fit in some celebrations at the annual gala. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to connect with us.

For companies with unionized workforces, ESOP decisions are rarely one-size-fits-all. Including union employees in an ESOP may help strengthen alignment, retention, and company culture. However, participation often depends on collective bargaining agreements, workforce dynamics, and plan design considerations. What are the strategic, regulatory, and cultural factors organizations should evaluate when deciding whether and how to include union employees in an ESOP? The proposed Taxpayer Assistance and Service (TAS) Act could bring significant changes for taxpayers, including faster IRS decisions on refund claims, new appeal options through IRS Appeals and the U.S. Tax Court, and expanded taxpayer protections. The legislation also includes updates to filing deadlines, electronic filing and payment rules, and IRS digital modernization efforts. Our full insight details the bill's potential implications for taxpayers and tax professionals: https://bdousa.com/3TVNqqn

When tax policy changes make headlines, it's easy to focus on the immediate impact. The bigger question is often: what do these changes signal about the future? California's evolving tax landscape offers an interesting case study. Current discussions span digital taxation, business credit limitations, revenue-generating measures, and proposed ballot initiatives. Viewed individually, each development is significant. Viewed together, they reveal how states are responding to growing fiscal and policy pressures. For organizations operating across multiple jurisdictions, this underscores an important point: state tax policy is constantly evolving. Changes can emerge throughout the year through the budget process, amendments, ballet measures, and regulatory activity. The organizations best positioned to respond are often those that build ongoing monitoring into their tax planning process and evaluate potential impacts before proposals become law. One question worth considering: If a policy initiative gains traction in California, how quickly could similar concepts appear elsewhere?
