NPR's Amy Scott recently featured a story on the growing role of housing innovation in helping address affordability challenges across the country. The segment built on recent reporting from The Washington Post's Julie Weil, who shared insights from her coverage of the growing role of off-site construction in neighborhood settings, how modern manufactured housing is driving attainability, and recent policy changes that could support industry growth. As part of her piece, Weil highlighted a neighborhood of Clayton-built CrossMod homes in Santa Rosa, California. Combining features often associated with site-built homes with the efficiencies of off-site construction, CrossMod homes represent a distinct housing category designed to expand homeownership opportunities for more families. • We are deeply saddened by the loss of singer, songwriter, philanthropist and East Tennessee native Dolly Parton, whose generosity and talent inspired millions around the world.   Clayton Founder Jim Clayton reflected on Dolly's remarkable life and legacy, sharing personal memories from his time hosting a local television variety show in Knoxville, TN where he promoted and grew the Clayton business, and came to showcase the musical performances of Dolly Parton.   “Dolly had great humility. She was an internationally known star, but when she came to the studio, she fit right in and was always so kind,” said Jim Clayton.   From our hometown in East Tennessee to all around the world, Dolly's impact will be felt for generations to come.   Watch the full segment on Jim Clayton's memories of Dolly Parton here: https://lnkd.in/grreZAaR

  • The Clayton team has begun envisioning what’s next for multi-story home design as we celebrate the new option to remove the steel chassis between the first and upper floors of our modern manufactured homes.  With the ROAD to Housing Act and chassis optionality now law, we will soon be able to open doors for more families to achieve attainable homeownership.   Multi-story off-site built homes offer narrower footprints and increased vertical square footage ideal for urban infill and higher-density neighborhood lots. Using AI, we created this home design to represent a floor plan Clayton plans to release in the future. Join us as we imagine what’s next!   Learn more about the impact of this landmark legislation in our news release here: https://lnkd.in/gUZ5a_wB

  • We were excited to host Congressman French Hill, Manufactured Housing Institute CEO Lesli Gooch and local officials for a tour of our Clayton Conway facility, led by General Manager Jamar Murchison.  Thank you to Chairman Hill for his leadership in advancing the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which includes the important option to remove the steel chassis from modern manufactured homes. This legislation will help modernize federal housing standards, and allow our homes to feature lower-profile designs that enhance curb appeal and encourage builders to expand new opportunities for innovation, including multi-story home designs in urban and neighborhood locations. Chairman Hill’s efforts represent an important step toward expanding the nation’s housing supply and helping more families achieve attainable homeownership.

  • Recently, Clayton celebrated the opening of Westgate Heights, a new 34-home neighborhood in Utica, New York, that represents one of the area's largest additions of newly constructed homes in recent years. Bringing energy-efficient, thoughtfully-designed CrossMod homes to the area, this neighborhood is expected to expand availability of new housing, creating attainable homeownership opportunities for local families. We're proud of all the team members at Clayton Homes of Frankfort that are helping to bring homeownership within reach for individuals and families in their community.

This week marks a historic milestone for housing. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is now law, which will make the permanent chassis requirement under the HUD Code optional for modern manufactured homes. This change unlocks greater flexibility in home design, creating opportunities to reduce costs and expand options for homebuyers. From multi-story homes to designs better suited for neighborhoods, builders now have more tools to meet the evolving needs of today’s buyers. The new law represents one of the most significant advancements for housing in decades and an important step toward expanding attainable homeownership opportunities across the country. Thank you to the policymakers, industry partners and housing advocates whose dedication and collaboration helped make this milestone possible!
