The world’s first autonomous-first mine is now operating in Utah! 📍 Autonomous mining is moving from pilot programs to full-scale operational strategy, and Mariana Minerals is making a bold claim at the center of that shift. 🗣️ “Copper One will be the first mine where delivering end-to-end autonomy is the priority, where it’s being rapidly deployed across mining and refining operations and coordinated by our internal software stack. That’s what MarianaOS makes possible.” - Turner Caldwell, co-founder and CEO of Mariana Minerals Read here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eJvunzWs --------------------------- Content Director: Neil Perry for Mining Outlook

#blastoftheweek – This week’s blast marks a major milestone for the mining industry: the first production blast from the world’s first autonomous mine. Mariana Minerals’ Copper One Mine, located in southeast Utah, uses advanced software and autonomous systems to supply high-purity copper safely and efficiently. This blast, which was delivered by Dyno Nobel’s joint venture partner Wesco, is a step forward for the entire mining industry as it moves into a new, technologically driven era of progress. The blast used 60,000 pounds of Dyno Nobel explosives and was initiated by Utah’s Governor Spencer Cox and Mariana Minerals’ CEO, Turner Calwell. The blue color in the second blast provides key visual data that will drive future optimization. Congratulations to Mariana Minerals, Wesco, and the entire Copper One Mine team for this achievement.

UMA member Mariana Copper One (formerly the Lisbon Valley Copper Mine) held its “First Blast” event on Monday to celebrate the resumption of active mining operations and its new status as the world's first mine to deploy autonomous tools across all three operational domains—mining, refining, and capital project execution—unified under a single AI operating platform. What that means, in essence, is that Mariana Minerals is bringing the tools of technology to amplify the mining history and expertise we already have here in Utah to help attain our state and national goals for minerals dominance. UMA member Mariana Copper One (formerly the Lisbon Valley Mining Company LLC) held its “First Blast” event on Monday to celebrate the resumption of active mining operations and its new status as the world's first mine to deploy autonomous tools across all three operational domains—mining, refining, and capital project execution—unified under a single AI operating platform. Thanks to Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Rachael Overbey from the U.S. Department of Energy, and San Juan County Commissioner Lori Maughan for participating in the First Blast program, and to the many state officials and legislators who made the trek to southeastern Utah to inaugurate this exciting new chapter for Utah’s mining industry. And, of course, thanks to Turner Caldwell, Baker Tilney, James Hoggard, George Shaw, and the whole team at Mariana Minerals and Mariana Cooper One for your investment in Utah! Mariana Minerals has restarted copper production in Utah, using it to rethink how a mine operates. Rather than layering automation onto legacy systems, Copper One is being run as an integrated system from the start: autonomous drills, driverless haul trucks, robotic inspection, and real-time process control all coordinated through a single software stack. This approach makes output more consistent and surfaces issues earlier. Projects that used to take years to optimize can be tuned continuously. In a sector long shaped by labor constraints, extended timelines, and fragmented workflows, this approach introduces a different operating model—one that can unlock bottlenecks that have limited supply for decades. Copper underpins electrification, infrastructure, and compute. At BE, we back companies building these kinds of systems, because improving how foundational materials are produced doesn’t just increase supply, it creates a competitive advantage for the economies and industries that adopt these new technologies. https://lnkd.in/gRqrA-VU

If you are a software engineer that wants to work on cutting edge tech with real world impact, check out open roles at Mariana Minerals. Here's a picture I took yesterday from the control room in their Utah mine, where they are using reinforcement learning, computer vision, robotics, and LLMs to manage the end-to-end operations of a closed circuit copper mine and refinery. This is the future of critical minerals, and it's happening here in the United States. https://lnkd.in/gvPvAeJt
