NYC Tourism + Conventions is pleased to announce that Fred Dixon has been appointed President and CEO, effective December 1. Dixon returns to NYC Tourism + Conventions following his tenure as President and CEO of Brand USA, the nation’s destination marketing organization focused exclusively on increasing international visitation to the United States. His return brings together longtime experience promoting New York City with a broader, national and global perspective on the evolving travel landscape. His appointment follows a search process led by the NYC Tourism + Conventions Board Search Committee, comprised of Board leadership in accordance with the organization's bylaws. Russell Reynolds Associates was also engaged to support this effort. As New York City reflects on the extraordinary success of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, it's clear this tournament was about far more than football. It placed New York City at the center of the world's largest sporting event, hosting eight matches at New York New Jersey Stadium, including the Final on July 19. Across 104 matches and nearly six weeks of competition, the tournament captivated audiences around the globe, culminating in Spain's victory over Argentina before a combined US television audience of 63 million viewers across FOX and Telemundo. New York City Tourism + Conventions worked throughout the tournament to ensure that the global spotlight extended well beyond the matches, activating our organization, industry partners, and member businesses to showcase NYC as the ultimate host city. The success of this historic moment was made possible through a strong public-private partnership with the City of New York and partners across all five boroughs, demonstrating what can be achieved when government, tourism leaders, businesses, and communities come together around a shared vision. Through our Where the World Comes to Play campaign, Five Borough Winners special programming, and more, we highlighted the experiences and neighborhoods that make New York City unlike anywhere else. We were proud to showcase attractions, culture, dining, and entertainment across all five boroughs and 141 neighborhoods, connecting visitors from around the world with the depth, diversity, and energy of our destination. One of the tournament's most meaningful legacies wasn't measured in attendance or viewership, but in favorable travel perception. We began the year facing uncertainty and headwinds for international travel, but by the tournament's end, social media was filled with overwhelmingly positive reactions from fans around the world celebrating their experiences, with New York City consistently standing out for its energy, hospitality, and unforgettable atmosphere, along with the other host cities. That wave of authentic consumer sentiment is one of the most valuable outcomes of all, reinforcing the City's reputation as a world-class destination and inspiring future travelers to experience it for themselves. To the estimated 1.2 million fans who traveled here, and to the countless New Yorkers who welcomed them with pride, enthusiasm, and generosity, thank you for helping show the world what makes New York City the world's most diverse, vibrant, and welcoming destination.
