Persistence and adherence must be a critical focus for pharma marketers. “Slippage” among patients can create significant leakage and cause outsized revenue losses. Importantly, from a patient perspective needed therapies are ignored. Great insights from Dr. Alvin Glay, our Chief Strategy Officer on how to plug the gap, grow revenue, and help patients. #Pharma #HealthcareMarketing #BehaviouralScience #Marketing #Strategy
Pharma marketers have really nailed the art of creating awareness and getting doctors to have conversations about their products. But what happens once a prescription is written? Here’s the reality: about 50% of prescriptions for chronic conditions never get filled, and three out of four people who do fill them stop taking their medication within a few months. I'm sure we all can attest to this as patients in some capacity. The industry often looks at this as an issue of access, affordability, or simply needing a reminder to take the medication. While these factors are important, there’s something deeper at play for many patients: unresolved doubt. "Do I really need this medication? Is it actually working for me? Are the risks worth it? Can I see myself sticking with this treatment long-term?" In my latest article, I discuss why the staggering $300 billion issue of patient adherence is ultimately a matter of trust. It’s crucial for DTC marketers not just to focus on awareness but also on the journey that continues after the prescription is filled. So, I’m reaching out to my fellow life sciences marketers: Who should be responsible for maintaining a patient’s medication routine six months in, and why is this not a core marketing KPI? I’d love to hear insights from those in brand management, patient engagement, CRM, analytics, market access, and medical affairs. Let’s have a conversation about this important topic. Please share or tag anyone you think might have a POV. Think HIPAA is the only privacy law healthcare marketers need to worry about? Think again. One of the biggest misconceptions in healthcare marketing is that HIPAA compliance equals privacy compliance. It doesn't. As consumer health data increasingly flows through websites, mobile apps, CRM platforms, advertising technologies, and AI-powered experiences, marketers are navigating a much more complex landscape. Depending on the data you're collecting—and how you're using it—state consumer privacy laws and other regulations may apply alongside (or instead of) HIPAA. The most successful healthcare brands are shifting their mindset from asking, "What data can we collect?" to "How do we create value while earning trust?" That means: ✔️ Building privacy into marketing strategy from the beginning—not at the end. ✔️ Vetting ad tech and data partners more carefully. ✔️ Being transparent about how consumer data is collected and used. ✔️ Recognizing that privacy is no longer just a compliance function—it's a brand differentiator. As AI accelerates personalization and consumers become more aware of their data rights, trust will become one of healthcare's most valuable marketing assets. The brands that get privacy right won't just reduce risk—they'll build stronger, longer-lasting relationships with the people they serve. #HealthcareMarketing #PharmaMarketing #DataPrivacy #HIPAA #ConsumerPrivacy #DigitalHealth #AI #MarTech #Trust #MarketingStrategy https://lnkd.in/gnffMWF6

Adherence and persistence are critical for pharma brands. Thanks to MediaPost for having Dr. Alvin Glay as a featured panelist. #Pharma #Insights #ResponseMedia #HealthcareMarketing #BehavioralScience
Half of prescriptions never get filled. Of the half that do, a third of patients quit within a couple months. Shyam Desai (CMI Media Group) and Dr. Alvin Glay (Response Media) joined Rachel Mancuso (Butler/Till) to close out our #BrandInsider Pharma & Healthcare Summit. They unpacked the real barriers standing between patients and adherence. ➕ It's emotional before it's logistical. Brands treat prescriptions like transactions, but the real question patients are asking is "Does this fit my life?" ➕ Persistence marketing is a rounding error in most budgets. Less than 1% of pharma budgets go toward keeping patients on therapy, even though losing them early erases any clinical or commercial upside. ➕ Meet patients in moments, not funnel stages. Plan around emotional moments rather than generic pre-Rx/on-Rx buckets, so messaging actually matches how someone feels. #MediaPostInsiderSummits #PharmaMarketing #HealthcareMarketing

Our very own Dr. Alvin Glay will be speaking at the MediaPost Brand Insider Summit: Pharma & Health on Saturday, August 1 at 10am. Join us for "Click to Care: Building Trust and Removing Barriers in the Patient Journey". A patient can see your ad, visit your website, talk to their doctor, and still never start their treatment. Between knowledge gaps, affordability walls, data privacy restrictions, and generational divides in how people expect to engage with healthcare, the path from awareness to action is riddled with friction. Let’s discuss how to build smarter, more holistic strategies to guide patients from first touchpoint to long-term treatment. #Pharma #SpeakerAnnouncement #HealthcareMarketing #Health #Data

The gap between a breakthrough therapy and a patient who benefits from it has never been more consequential or more addressable. Today's pharma and healthcare marketers are navigating a landscape defined by fragmented patient journeys, shrinking HCP access, mounting cost barriers, and an algorithmically mediated world that is rewriting the rules of discovery and engagement. Josh Perlstein and Dr. Alvin Glay are heading to the summer edition of the MediaPost Brand Insider Summit: Pharma & Health to help tackle the pharma and health industry's defining challenges and opportunities. From omnichannel orchestration and next-best-action engines to point-of-care influence, affordability strategy, and the rapidly condensing patient funnel. Will you be there? We'd love to connect. #Pharma #Healthcare #BrandInsider #MediaPost #PharmaMarketing #Health #HCPMarketing
