Financial Literacy Month may be ending, but the work doesn’t—companies have a real role to play in building financial confidence. Too often, financial education stops at access and awareness. The real impact comes when learning is practical, rooted in community, and powered by employees. In the latest Up Next newsletter, Synchrony Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer Marissa Lara shares three lessons from the field that are shaping how Synchrony expands financial literacy at scale. Did you learn personal finance in school? Only 39% of U.S. consumers surveyed say they did—yet nearly 70% believe it should be taught in schools. Synchrony’s latest In Sync with Consumers survey highlights a gap between what many consumers experienced and what they want for the next generation. And with 75% saying financial literacy is a lifelong journey, the need for earlier and continuous financial education is now considered a life skill for many consumers across the country. At Synchrony, we’re passionate about expanding access to financial education to everyone. As part of our #EmpoweringFinancialFutures philanthropic initiative, we created a Financial Literacy Training Service Corps, which is an employee-led, volunteer program to bring practical, real-world financial education into communities across the country. This #FinancialLiteracyMonth, we brought together team members from across the U.S. for our inaugural two-day facilitator training at our Stamford headquarters, preparing them to partner with local nonprofits and community organizations as classroom-ready facilitators. They practiced teaching personal finance topics like budgeting, credit, savings, and post-high school planning, but more importantly, they learned “how” to become engaging facilitators to help make the content click for young people. We’re excited to activate this first cohort in our local communities and help build stronger financial futures.

Trust is the AI advantage you can’t buy. In the race to deploy AI, most companies focus on models, data and integrations, but the real differentiator is what’s already in place: a culture of trust and accountability. In his recent Fortune opinion piece, Synchrony CEO Brian Doubles shares why trust is the engine of true innovation. It’s also why being named the #1 Great Place to Work in the U.S. matters. High-trust cultures move faster, experiment more and use AI with better judgement. Read more in our latest Up Next newsletter.

Our employees are celebrating #FinancialLiteracyMonth all month long at Synchrony. Last week, employees from our Chicago office came together to build financial confidence and share practical money skills. We welcomed more than 50 students from our nonprofit partners, HSF Chicago Scholars and ALPFA Chicago, for lessons on personal finance, a conversation on why credit matters, and a speed networking session. Thanks to all our Chicago colleagues and students who joined us! #EmpoweringFinancialFutures
