Fear-driven headlines continue to dominate, and it’s hard to cut through the noise — especially as valuations in our space react to the hype. I wanted real clarity on what AI will actually do to the ad industry. I just came back from visiting the Google team at their New York headquarters, sitting down with market leaders and product engineers face-to-face. It was refreshing to get real, no-hype insight from the place where the Google Ads products are built. Here’s the good news: AI is not going to kill the performance marketing, lead generation industry, or put our marketing community out of work. Mainly, what will the impact be of removing the enhanced subsidies. Per the KFF, subsidized enrollees are expected to see their premiums double so we know there will be a period of turmoil as consumers get sticker-shock. However, what is the actual impact going to be? We know that there will be a mix of outcomes from downgrading from Gold to Bronze plans or even going totally uninsured. If you want to provide a robust product offering to consumers during this uncertain time, make sure you also have short-term medical plans in your portfolio. These plans, now extended to 36 months, provide a great option for consumers who want a budget-friendly alternative to ACA. But a lot of the time, it's just noise. The founders I admire most don’t just project success—they share what’s hard, admit mistakes, and keep learning. They stay humble, even while building big. If you look under the hood of any great company, you’ll find the messy middle. Excel™ is no different. In 2023, our growth stalled. Revenue compressed. We pointed fingers—at the market, the competition—until we realized the truth: WE GOT FAT. Too many projects. Too many meetings. Our culture drifted. Strategy lost clarity. Fraud-driven lead vendors, many who crossed over from ACA and Medicare, run ads promising free money, government programs, and benefits that don't exist. Consumers click, call, and convert thinking they're getting a $40,000 check. The agencies buying these leads know exactly where they're coming from. They buy them anyway because they're cheap and the volume is there. The agent knows the fraud angles are coming before they even pick up the phone. They jiu jitsu the consumer into a policy they don't fully understand, collect the commission, and move on. The consumer gets an $80/month premium instead of the $40,000 check they were promised. When they figure that out, they cancel. Chargebacks follow. And the same fraudulent ads keep hitting them on Facebook and Instagram because the platform doesn't know they already converted. Everyone loses. Except the lead vendor who already got paid. There is a better way. We run compliant television advertising for Final Expense. No government program claims. No free money.
