Angela Wise liked thisAngela Wise liked this“It’s not about you.” I believe that is one of the best pieces of advice I can give someone. We tend to make everything in our careers personal, from handling a crisis scenario and thinking “what if I get it wrong?”, “what if I miss something?”, “what if people question my leadership?” To organizing events and slipping into “this is my moment to prove myself,” “what if the room isn’t perfect,” “what if someone thinks I didn’t plan enough,” or “what if this reflects on me.” This is not self-reflection. The truth is most things are not about you, and most people are very busy worrying about themselves. If you shift your focus outward, you will improve your outcomes, and the benefits will follow. When you stop centering the fear and start centering the work, the team, and the purpose, the whole picture gets clearer. You lead better, you communicate better, and you actually perform better.

Angela Wise liked thisAngela Wise liked thisBeing flexible isn’t about shrinking yourself. It’s about staying focused on impact, even when the plan changes. Over the last 4 years I have evolved significantly. Family, career, and personal growth “opportunities”. I could have resisted. Instead, I leaned in. Because the mission didn’t change, and sometimes the most exciting opportunities show up disguised as detours. Flexibility is a strategy. I’m grateful I learned that early. Three things that have helped me stay flexible without losing my core: 1. Anchor to purpose, not position. Roles and titles shift but your “why” shouldn’t. 2. Adapt fast, decide slower. Take in the change quickly, but move with intention. 3. Protect your non-negotiables. Flexibility only works when you know what can bend and what can’t. Growth isn’t always about reinventing yourself sometimes it’s about remembering who you are, even as everything around you evolves.

Angela Wise liked thisFollowing a move to London a couple of weeks ago, I am incredibly excited, and honoured, to announce that I have taken up the role of CEO for OlympiaUK, as it enters the final few months before the start of its new public venues’ opening. This is a unique opportunity to be involved with a new global destination that is set to redefine what entertainment is, building on 140 years of heritage. For those in my network not familiar with Olympia, it is an iconic heritage site currently undergoing a £1.3bn transformation from event venue into full destination for entertainment, culture and innovation. As well as its historic event halls, operated by Olympia Events, the transformed Olympia will be home to a new international conference centre, two new hotels by citizenM and Hyatt Regency; a 3,800-capacity music venue operated by AEG Presents; the largest new theatre in London in 50 years with 1,575 seats, by Trafalgar Entertainment and The Shubert Organization; 30 restaurants, bars and eateries, with operators including D3 Collective and Incipio; a boutique gym by 1Rebel; 550,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art office space with gorgeous views over the London skyline, with tenants including Premier League Studios and IWG, and 2.5 acres of new public space. At Olympia, Michael will lead the estate’s team and oversee the destination as it transitions from development to live operations, working closely with all our venue operators across the site. His appointment marks a significant milestone, as Olympia evolves from heritage event space into London’s newest entertainment destination.
