We are all craving deep reading, deep thinking, and deep connection —which all require deep time. I went back this morning and re-read the interview we did with Maya Payne Smart, and was drawn to her phrase the "privilege of focus." Let's start a spiritual book club where we read what we want, when we want, no meetings or deadlines - just a shared reframe of deep time as subversive in a world of shallow distraction, addictive scrolling, and unrelenting attention grabbing. ❤️📖❤️

I've been thinking a lot about trust and distrust as it relates to AI, and how team trust takes a huge hit when team members are not aligned around how, when, and why they are using AI. When our team trusts our problem-solving abilities and they count on our discernment skills, and we knowingly or unknowingly abdicate our thinking for AI expediency and frictionless writing - trust breaks down. It can be as simple as spending an hour and making two lists: Here's what's OK Here's what's not OK We gotta start somewhere.

Brené Brown shared thisMy sisters and I fell absolutely head over heels for Rebecca Lowe during the World Cup. We were already fans from her Premiere League work, but the absolute baller leadership she demonstrated at the table with the biggest personalities in soccer - WOW! There are about 68 important insights from the conversation that Adam Grant and I had with her but nothing struck me as deeply as her commitment to preparation. This is so key to any kind of leadership. I often tell the women I mentor to never confuse what we call "presence" with preparation - and Rebecca is such an example of this. She explained that her strong ground is her prep. She's honest about how tough and unglamorous it is. She's also honest about preparaton being the key to her success. This episode is out today. Brené Brown shared thisOne of the bravest systems we’ve built in our organization is what we call the “story rumble.” Like it or not, within 24–48 hours of a failure, setback, or disappointment, everyone who touched it is in a room together talking about what happened. No one looks forward to it. But we’ve built enough muscle to trust that we’ll come out of it smarter, more honest, and more connected. And we know it’s going to be uncomfortable. That’s exactly why it’s a system—not something we opt into based on how we feel. We’ve all been at that table: anxious, discouraged, waiting for someone to break the silence with the questions that always kick things off a post-mortem: What the hell happened? How were we so off track? How did we miss this? Why didn’t we see it coming? Or, as one colleague put it a few months ago: “When, exactly, did this shit break bad?” We set four intentions for our story rumbles, and we’ve made them as systemic and predictable as the rumble itself: 1. Everyone is 100% responsible for the energy they bring into the room. 2. Everyone is responsible for naming when they go below the line. It’s human—we expect it. But we name it so the group can reset. 3. We’re not looking for bad people. We’re looking for bad systems. 4. We start by surfacing the stories we’re telling ourselves about what happened. Left unspoken, those stories tend to harden into fiction—usually rooted in unsubstantiated self-blame or blame of others. Either way, fiction doesn’t help us learn. The goal isn’t comfort. The goal is clarity. Brave systems are built by leaders with humility. Leaders who understand that courage is a discipline that requires consistent practice. A new collaborative paper from the lab, out in Psychotherapy Research, showing promising pilot results for Engage & Connect for Postpartum Depression. Engage & Connect a modified neuroscience-informed scalable and remote psychotherapy, that aims to improve the brain's reward functions by increasing engagement in rewarding social activities. Women with postpartum depression showed significant reductions in depression and anxiety severity (83% remission, 73% clinical response). This efficacy was mediated by our hypothesized mechanism - improved social reward responsivity. Importantly, women reported improvement in social support and infant attachment. These results suggest that increasing engagement in rewarding social activities may improve women's response to social rewards and in turn reduce depression. These early findings are the product of a few years of hard work, building what we believe is a promising first-line approach to women who are suffering, through an exciting interdisciplinary collaboration with experts in OBGYN and women's mental health (Lauren Osborne, Victoria M Wilkins), public health and bioinformatics (Natalie Benda, Meghan McDarby), cognitive neuroscientists (Oded Bein, Faith Gunning), clinicians (Meghan McDarby, Betsy Frese Brown, LCSW), and our brilliant trainees (Aliayah Himelfarb, Zareen M., Maddy Schier) So thrilled to expand this interdisciplinary collaboration with the goal of improving psychotherapies for women with depression broadly https://lnkd.in/eEeQRTWZ
