David Marlon shared thisIn 2019, I ran for Las Vegas City Council and lost in the primary by 132 votes. It was close enough to sting, but far enough to lose decisively. Today, as I run again for City Council in Ward 6, I carry that experience with me. At the time, the loss felt sharp and immediate, the kind that lingers longer than you expect. But with distance, and now with the perspective of being back in the arena, I see clearly that the outcome of that race mattered far less than what it gave me in return. https://lnkd.in/gPCNWFnB

David Marlon shared thisThank you, Casey Flair, for visiting Vegas Stronger. Casey understands nonprofits, donors, and community impact as well as anyone in Southern Nevada. He spent years helping lead Just One Project alongside Brooke Neubauer, and today continues that work through community and philanthropic leadership at Aristocrat Gaming. And many remember him as a quarterback for the UNLV Rebels football. We had an important conversation about the future of philanthropy in Las Vegas. With major projects like Intermountain Children's Hospital, the Las Vegas Museum of Art, and the Campus for Hope, our community is facing what could amount to over a billion dollars in new nonprofit fundraising demand. We’re already seeing the impact, some of our long-time resort partners have shared that their giving is being redirected to support these large-scale efforts. This moment calls for coordination, creativity, and leadership. Las Vegas has always stepped up, but we need to ensure that as we build for the future, we don’t unintentionally weaken the organizations serving people today. Grateful for leaders like Casey who are thinking deeply about how we navigate what comes next.

It was the result of years of inaction, missed opportunities, and a reluctance to confront a difficult issue early. By the time action was taken, it was too late, and taxpayers paid the price. Scot Rutledge Thanks for sharing this additional option, Scot. Living in Las Vegas, I’ve watched Lake Mead drop more than 100 feet, it’s impossible to ignore. We need to put long-term water solutions on the table, alongside even more aggressive conservation efforts.

David Marlon reacted on thisDavid Marlon reacted on thisWhen a safety-sensitive employee violates DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Return-to-Duty process follows a specific four-step federal framework: - -Initial Evaluation by a qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) - -SAP Recommendation for education and/or treatment - -Follow-Up Evaluation to assess compliance - -Follow-Up Testing Plan Employers do not control this timeline. The SAP does. The employee's engagement with the recommendations does. It literally takes a village to provide services. What I appreciate most are those that work in integrity. They understand the struggles of what nonprofits have to go through (because typically they are going through it as well). They look to create partnerships where both agencies win, and not just themselves. They make sure that both stand strong. When they say “partners” they mean it. If you aren’t apart of the solution and partnership- what are you doing??? Just a quick food for thought. 💭
