Olson shared thisA great session at the SIGMA Spring Conference on one of the most important and under-discussed challenges in downstream refined fuels: moving from allocation-driven firefighting to more predictable, orchestrated execution. The panel, From Allocations to Orchestration: Building an Interconnected, Interoperable, Intelligent Fuel Network, was highly informative and brought a practical operating lens to the realities of the refined fuels last mile - where orders, dispatch, terminals, carriers, documentation, and reconciliation still too often operate across disconnected workflows. Thank you to SIGMA: America's Leading Fuel Marketers for hosting a strong industry event and creating the forum for this kind of education-focused discussion. Appreciation to moderator Ken Evans of DTN and panelists Mark Lloyd of Kenan Advantage Group, Bill Cashin of Global Partners LP, and Brian Grosso of NextField Solutions for a thoughtful conversation on what it will take to create greater confidence before movement begins - including shared validations, synchronized identifiers, better exception management, improved documentation flow, and practical steps operators can take now. The takeaway was clear: this is not a future-state concept. Companies across the industry are actively implementing these capabilities today across suppliers, buyers, terminals, and carriers to streamline a fragmented last-mile supply chain and create greater confidence before movement begins.

David C. Olson liked thisDavid C. Olson liked thisIt has been a heck of a 40 years operating and consulting in the hydrocarbon industry. It all started when a bright-eyed young engineer stepped into the hydrocarbon industry and immediately began ruining perfectly good pairs of boots. I dragged those shoes through every refinery and midstream asset imaginable, loving every greasy, chaotic minute of it. I loved learning about the different operating facets of the industry. By 1997, I left Indian Oil for Reliance Industries. Armed with desktop optimization tools (a Pentium III), I became obsessed with using math and technology to smash those walls down. My RIL stint under the visionary leadership of Mukesh Ambani in RIL was life-changing and made my belief in Value Chain Interface Transformation and Optimization even stronger. Then came the PowerPoint years. After 15 years operating in industry, I pivoted into consulting with Solomon, Accenture, and Deloitte. They taught me true corporate humility—working with many people and corporate cultures. While I consulted on business benchmarking, process transformation, and other facets of operations, Fuels Value Chain integration became my passion. As digital transformation sped up, I started throwing AI and modern platforms at every interface bottleneck I could find. Setting up architecture for the greenfields in refining, Chem and LNG were most intriguing. Life truly takes a full circle; five years ago, I was hired by MPC in a Digital Business partner role under a visionary Chief Digital Officer to oversee few major business verticals. I tried to just be the IT guy, but staying away from the value chain is impossible for me. Within nine months, I was right back at it, redesigning how MPC optimized its operations. It was an honour when the executives advised me to put the concept to a paper, build a digital driven manifesto for VCO, a strategic pathway that will shape how MPC operates Value Chains in the future. it was a truly exciting journey. I finally decided to step out of the glass doors of MPC for the last time, with a deeply satisfying 5 years; leaving behind a future-proof strategy, a process-centric execution concept of Global Process Ownership, and a strong digital and business leadership team I respect deeply. So, what does an oil veteran do after 40 years? I just got back from an incredible African safari—shoutout to JW Marriott, my lifelong travel partner—and I'm ready for the next chapter to begin. Help someone else who wants to excel in a similar journey? I might mentor the next generation, help a startup find its feet, or take some classes to figure out how to look important on a corporate board. Or, frankly, all of the above. Thank you to everyone who supported me and showed me their affection, mentorship and respect along the way—I couldn't have done any of this without you.

Yesterday, was our final presentation to the execs. 📈 Standing on the brand new office stairs right after pitching our ideas to the exec team, I couldn't help but think about my summer here at Global Partners LP. I started my internship off coming to a familiar place, with new faces surrounding me. I tackled everything and anything possible for a marketing intern, and I cannot believe its almost over. It's been an incredible summer, and I can't wait for my last week coming ahead. A massive thank you to Kaitlin Boudreau, Kristin Menconi, and Brian J. What does Texas’s Permian Basin have to do with space? More than you might think! While most people associate Midland, TX, with the oil and gas industry, the area is home to a growing data tech and space economy. SFA Chief Operating Officer Damon Feltman and Director of Strategic Growth Lauren M. Postler, MSSW, spoke at the Permian Power Conference on Monday, alongside Midland Mayor Lori Blong and Cholla Inc. CEO Gideon Powell. The panel covered the region’s tech transformation and had a rich conversation on how the intersection of energy, data, and space all contribute to U.S. security. And in case you weren’t aware, Midland is home to AST SpaceMobile who holds a contract with Space Development Agency, who is at one end of a super/hypersonic test corridor and has received funds from the Texas Space Commission to continue development of the Midland Space Port.
