Eric Range shared thisAs campuses around the US kick off their academic year, a question keeps popping into my mind. Are you confident your enrollment numbers are real? It's a question more enrollment leaders need to be asking. Sophisticated fraud is evolving faster than most institutions realize and the impact isn't just operational. When resources get diverted chasing applications from students who don't exist, your team's ability to serve the ones who do takes a real hit. This isn't just an IT problem. It's a strategic leadership problem. And the institutions handling it well aren't just patching security gaps, they're building a verifiable, resilient enrollment pipeline from the ground up. From my vantage point leading the product at Element451, I see what's possible when fraud detection is built into the process rather than bolted on at the end. The difference is significant.

Eric Range reposted thisEric Range reposted thisI've been thinking about LinkedIn's new "AI slop" button, more here: https://lnkd.in/gxJf4QVF To me, the issue isn't that people are using AI. I hope they are. The issue is that somewhere along the way, many people started skipping the most important step: understanding. Too often the workflow looks like this: Read article. Paste into an LLM. "Write me a LinkedIn post." Publish. No reflection. No synthesis. No original perspective. And honestly, I see the same thing in my day job. Whether it's Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or another model, people will paste in a business problem and accept whatever comes back without understanding the work, the industry, or the nuance of the problem they're actually trying to solve. The output often sounds intelligent. But sounding intelligent isn't the same as being insightful. AI is remarkably good at helping us express ideas. It is remarkably bad at replacing the expertise that comes from experience, context, and curiosity. The most valuable professionals in the AI era won't be the ones who can write the best prompts. They'll be the ones who can recognize when the answer is wrong, incomplete, or missing the point. I use AI every single day. It helps me organize thoughts, challenge assumptions, find blind spots, and communicate more clearly. But I refuse to let it replace the thinking. Maybe the future isn't about proving content was written by a human. Maybe it's about proving a human actually understood it. Use AI to sharpen your ideas—not to substitute for having them. I'm curious: Have you noticed this too? Where have you seen AI make someone's work better...and where have you seen it replace thinking instead?

Eric Range shared thisElement451 Engage Summit 2026 has come and gone — and this year was our biggest ever. From humble beginnings to more than 1,000 attendees in Charlotte this summer, it’s incredible to see how far this community has come. And our product team showed up strong. Michael Stephenson showcased the first agentic case management solution for higher education. The room cheered as we announced Bolt Deduplication, our new AI-powered agent built to minimize the time staff spend managing duplicate records — freeing them up to focus on higher-priority work. We also shared major improvements to Fraud Detection, where we’ve already seen institutions intercept hundreds, even thousands, of fraudulent applications using Element451. Matthew Ellis and I gave the world the first real look at Encoura connect, bringing 50 years of higher data expertise and intelligent to power Element451 and our Bolt Agents. A special shoutout to Kootayba (Kutibh) Chihabi, Ph.D., our newest product manager, who joined us just six weeks ago. While he wasn’t on stage, he was absolutely key to bringing some of these projects to life — and he spent the entire conference doing exactly what great product people do: talking with customers, listening closely, and gathering feedback that will help shape the year ahead. But beyond the moments on stage, Engage is really about connecting with our customers. It’s about understanding the problems they face every day and figuring out how we can help solve them over the next 12 months. It was amazing to share the stage with James, Ty, Derek, Dražen, Kelly, and Milos. And lastly, Engage is always a time to connect with friends and coworkers — from the people who have been there for all five Engage Summits to those experiencing it for the very first time. Proud of this team. Proud of this journey. See you in Orlando in 2027.

Eric Range shared thisIt is a big day for Element451 and an even bigger day for #highered! So proud to be part of the team to bring Encoura Connect to life! 🚀Eric Range shared thisToday, we're changing what's possible for enrollment teams. Element451 and Encoura are partnering to give enrollment teams something no other platform in higher ed offers: Encoura's enrollment intelligence and Element451's AI agents working together in one connected system. Predictive scores on every student profile. Name buys that flow directly into your CRM. Bolt agents that act on those signals automatically. No exports, no manual steps. This is an exclusive partnership. Nothing like it exists in higher ed. Read the full announcement at the link below. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gZdzNPrR

Eric Range liked thisEric Range liked thisToday, we started our morning at 5:30 am (with an unbelievable Iowa sunrise) for the 4 ½ hr drive to move our son back to Buena Vista University for his second year of college. He went back early because he could not wait to get there, and let’s be real, we were ready to return to empty-nesters. There is something about the energy of a college campus when students are entering for the first time and returning. After spending many years working on campuses, I still feel it. Students reconnecting with friends, families carrying boxes, people trying to figure out where they belong. There is so much possibility wrapped up in those first few days, absolutely indescribable energy. As drives always do, it got me thinking about my experience and how it shaped my leadership. In education, we spend a lot of time talking about how quickly students can earn college credits, how early they can start, and how efficiently they can get to a degree. There is value in giving students those opportunities, and dual enrollment is critical for equity, access, and success. But I also wonder if, somewhere along the way, we have started to think of college as simply a collection of credits to complete as quickly as possible. So much of what shaped me as a leader never appeared on my transcript. Co-directing an outdoor orientation program provided valuable business experience in budgeting, training, and decision-making well before there was any official title or revenue goal. The chance to immerse myself in a new environment and foster a community was truly rewarding. These skills continue to benefit me whenever I engage with a new customer, move to a new community, or begin a new role alongside different colleagues. This journey involved figuring out personal beliefs, being open to changing perspectives, gaining confidence, and learning from failures (let’s not discuss that bio class). It taught me how to work through hard stuff and build resilience and growth. Those experiences gave me room to make mistakes while surrounded by people who wanted me to succeed. They taught me how to recover, how to listen, how to work with people who were different from me, and how to keep going when the path did not look quite the way I expected. Whether that path is through a community college, a private college, a public university, a technical program, or another form of education after high school, there is tremendous value in having a place and a season of life devoted to becoming. Four years can feel like a long time when you are looking ahead at it. On the other hand, it is such a small part of life, but it can help shape everything on the path to come. Also, thank you, BVU for providing that place for my son. #highereducation #leadership #customersuccess

Eric Range reacted on thisEric Range reacted on thisIn 2017, Element451 wasn't a company yet. I teamed up with Ardis Kadiu, Michael McGetrick, Steve Kerge, Ronald Tadross, CFA to spin an incubated student engagement product out into a company of its own. In 2018, Element451 was born. The intent was simple: turn it into something bigger. After five years of startup life, I stepped away for what I jokingly called my “three-year sabbatical” in marketing and creative analytics at VaynerX. Then, in 2024, I came back. I rejoined Ardis, Petar Djordjevic, Rose Fields, Brandon Hurter, Jaime Moquin and the Element451 board, and together we reached one of the most exciting milestones of my career: our partnership with PSG and the opportunity to accelerate Element’s next stage of growth. But my journey wasn’t over, and I’m incredibly proud of what came next. Over the past two years, I've had a front-row seat, and the privilege of helping, as Element evolved from a higher-ed technology company into an AI-native, multi-product platform. Along the way, I learned an enormous amount about transformation, leadership, and what it takes to prepare a company, and oneself, for the next stage of growth. And now it's time for my own next stage. I'm transitioning from COO and Head of AI to Strategic Advisor, where I'll keep supporting Element and the team as they build what comes next. To James Novak, Trey Boyer, Ken Yanhs, Ty Fujimura, Lisa Van Ever, Cecily Street, Derek Knudsen and the entire Element team: I have tremendous confidence in where you’ll take this company. A special thank you to James and Cecily for their partnership in this transition, and to the Element451 Board, Dan Dal Degan, Adam Marcus, Ardis Kadiu, Bobby Ocampo, and Ellie McCabe for their trust and support. Companies are ultimately collections of people who believe something can be better than it is today. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to build alongside so many of them. Colin Irose, McKenzie Swanson, Renee Golding, Brendan Henkel, Kelly Sinacola, Sydney (Smith) Blozan, Douglas Smith, Victoria Gahn, Daniella Nordin, Lindsay Bowen, Eric Range, Milos Tomic, Dražen Radanović, Joshua S.ović, Joshua S., Matt Palmer ☁️, Christina Hilpipre-Frischman, Savanna McDede King, and many more: thank you. As for what comes next for me… More on that very soon. 😉 For today, I’m celebrating this chapter, the people who made it possible, and everything we built together. Onward. 🚀

Eric Range liked thisEric Range liked thisWith over 700 new students and family members and supporters in attendance, we kicked off a new tradition at Wake Technical Community College with our first New Student Convocation. With a theme of First in Flight, the students in attendance are ready to fly into the first day of Fall on Monday. They got lots of great tips from our event hosts, Chrissty Berry and Alex Ortega-Saucedo - my favorites were know your route; stay engaged; communicate early; and use your crew. These two were absolute stars and made the day special. Scott Ralls gave great advice to get the program started, and it was my privilege to wrap things up by giving the new Eagles their send off. We made lots of notes and ideas for how to make this event even better next year and into a new tradition at Wake Tech. So many people need a thank you - Michael Coleman for leading the initiative and making it happen; the marketing team and communications team for being our partners and supporters; the college events team for all their logistics work; all of the college departments who offered resource tables; and the planning and implementation team from Enrollment and Student Services for the thousand little details it takes to pull off a big event. And a special thank you to the students and supporters. Thank you for choosing Wake Tech and thank you for spending today with us. As I said to our new students, beginning college is not about knowing the final destination. It is about being willing to take off. Monday starts a new academic year, and we are ready to take flight.

Digital accessibility is a top priority for the institutions I work with, yet many still find implementation complex. This is where Anthology Ally makes a real difference. It integrates directly into the LMS, helps faculty resolve accessibility issues, provides students with alternative formats, and supports institutions in meeting compliance requirements without extra tools or long training sessions. In my conversations with universities across the region I have seen how Ally removes barriers for learners and gives institutions the confidence that accessibility is embedded into every course. And now with Ally adding AI capabilities the impact will only grow as accessibility becomes smarter, faster, and more intuitive. #AnthologyAlly #HigherEd #DigitalAccessibility

I’m proud to share that Southern New Hampshire University Professional Skills has launched a new suite of microcredentials designed for today’s most in-demand skills: Generative AI, Data Literacy, Emotional Intelligence, Everyday Influence, and Human-Centered Design Thinking, with more on the way in 2026. These six-week, non-credit programs help learners accelerate skill development and demonstrate applied, workplace-ready capabilities, giving employers clearer signals of talent and impact. We’re also leveraging AI within the learning experience itself, making the journey more adaptive, personalized, and practical for each learner. One exciting milestone: our Generative AI microcredential has been approved for up to nine undergraduate credits through credit for prior learning, bridging the gap between workforce learning and academic progress. I’m deeply grateful to the SNHU community for their collaboration and innovation in making this possible. Together, we’re building future-focused learning that empowers individuals and organizations to grow. If your team is exploring ways to upskill or reskill employees, Marcy Vadurro or I would welcome a conversation. Check it out: https://bit.ly/snhuskills

Is your institution ready to meet the LEARN Commission’s roadmap for student success? 🎓📊 The recent coverage in Inside Higher Ed regarding the LEARN Commission report makes one thing clear: Transfer evaluation needs to evolve to better serve today’s learners. The report identifies three critical "levers" for systemic change. At Parchment, we offer solutions like Data Automation (Raptor) to be the engine to help institutions accomplish all three at once: 🔹 1. Enhancing Student Data and Technology Systems Manual data entry is a bottleneck to student mobility. Raptor automates the ingestion of transcript data with unmatched accuracy, turning static PDFs into actionable, structured data in seconds. It’s not just about speed; it’s about building a foundation of data integrity. 🔹 2. Investing in Human Capital Your staff’s greatest value isn't in typing data into a CRM or SIS—it’s in supporting students. By automating the "grunt work" of data entry, Raptor frees up your team to focus on high-touch advising, transcript evaluation, and enrollment strategy. We invest in people by giving them better tools. 🔹 3. Building Supportive Policy Conditions To implement policies that favor transfer equity and credit transparency, you need clean, standardized data across the board. Parchment’s automation solutions provide the visibility required to make data-driven policy decisions that actually move the needle for learners. The path forward for Higher Ed involves moving from fragmented processes to integrated, automated systems. Read more about the LEARN Commission’s findings in the full Inside Higher Ed article here: A New Vision for Learning Evaluation Curious how Raptor can modernize your data workflow? Here’s a link to a short video: https://lnkd.in/gxWBgKkY Want more info???
