We had spoken a few months ago, just a conversation like many others we have every week. It reminded me of something we can easily forget in recruitment: what feels like a small interaction to us can mean something much bigger to someone else. She told me she had been close to giving up. She felt stuck, overqualified on paper, but not getting the right opportunities. We spoke about her experience, her options, and, more importantly, her mindset. I encouraged her not to settle and to keep going, even when it felt difficult. Today, she reached out to say she got the opportunity she had been working toward. What stayed with me most was not the outcome, but her perspective. She said that conversation helped her keep going at a time when she needed it most. For me, it was a powerful reminder that recruitment is not just about roles, CVs, or placements. It is about people. It is about timing. Sometimes, it is simply about taking a few extra minutes to listen and encourage. You never really know the impact you are having. Greg Silvestri liked thisGreg Silvestri liked thisAfter 12 years at Epic Games, I’ll be leaving in July and starting to think about my next adventure. I’m grateful for the people I’ve worked with and the opportunities I’ve had at Epic. I joined as a Senior Gameplay Programmer, worked on Fortnite AI, designed console input and in-game UI in preparation for the launch of Fortnite on consoles, including the original radial wheel design that is still part of Fortnite today, helped found Fortnite Anti-Cheat, and later founded and scaled Epic’s Ecosystem Security organization across security, safety, fraud prevention, account protection, moderation platforms, AI classification, analytics, and investigations. Before Epic, I spent many years at Irrational Games working on AI, gameplay, and engineering leadership for SWAT 4, BioShock, and BioShock Infinite. For what comes next, I’d like to find good people building something worthwhile, where my mix of engineering leadership, AI, gameplay, platform, product, and user experience work can be helpful. I’ve always liked learning new domains and figuring out unfamiliar problems with good people, and I’m especially interested in how AI can change the way people design, build, learn, and use technology. I’d be happy to reconnect, meet new teams, or hear about opportunities that might be a fit. And who knows, maybe I’ll end up creating something interesting myself.
